It's not likely that JDR will become the next Head Coach of the Texans. But they could easily name another coach with a Defensive Background as their next Head Coach.

While the Texans made the playoffs twice with Gary Kubiak and won a playoff game in both of those seasons, I don't think Kubiak set the standard that the Texans will follow in the future. Expectations in Houston were higher than what Kubiak ended up accomplishing there. If the next Texans HC is a former QB and Offensive Coordinator, it very likely will be because that person is the best potential HC candidate based on his own merits/ credentials.
