While the Texans made the playoffs twice with Gary Kubiak and won a playoff game in both of those seasons, I don't think Kubiak set the standard that the Texans will follow in the future.  Expectations in Houston were higher than what Kubiak ended up accomplishing there. If the next Texans HC is a former QB and Offensive Coordinator, it very likely will be because that person is the best potential HC candidate based on his own merits/ credentials.
 

Dom Capers took the Texans nowhere and was fired. The Texans had a lot more success with Gary Kubiak. Is it just a coincidence that a former DC was bad and Kubiak  won two division titles? I am not saying the Texans should avoid defensive coordinators in the  next HC search, but believe in sticking with what works.
