Ah yes, I remember the Staten Island ferry. Kind of famous and always seems to show up in any movie about New York city.

 

One of the great sports memories my Dad shared with me was what life in Brooklyn was when the Dodgers were still there.  The impression I got from him and what I've read and seen over the years is that Brooklyn had a small town atmosphere when it came to the Dodgers.   The players lived in Brooklyn neighborhood and were very recognizable.   The passion of the Brooklyn Dodgers fan base was incredible.   While I don't think the modern day Brooklyn Nets will ever have the type of following that the Dodgers did,  there's no question that the presence of the Nets and the entire Atlantic Yards/ Barclays Center project should further enhance Brooklyn as a place that many want to be a part of again.

 

The modern day Staten Island Ferry connects Staten Island and Manhattan.  I believe that's the ferry that is seen in most movies about NYC.   I'm not sure what the old ferry service from Staten Island to Brooklyn was called.   But there was certainly a time when that was basically the only mode of public transportation from Staten Island to Brooklyn.
