Quote:Why I don't have Uverse: Unfortunately, the telecommunications industry is filled with terrible customer service all the way around and shady practices, it's not just Uverse and Comcast. DirecTV does tend to be a bit better in that regard, however, I asked DirecTV several times to stop calling me about adding on a package of worthless channels for an extra $5 per month and they would never stop calling. You don't need any special boxes from the provider like the woman in the Comcast link is complaining about. You just log into the Apps of the channels you watch with the proper credentials through your AppleTV, Roku or equivalent. It streams in HD so there is no need to pay the extra HD charge they like to add on either. Any cost involved in obtaining an AppleTV, Roku or etc will ultimately pay for itself within a year if not within a few months even if you're just opting out of renting a provider's equipment and paying their HD content premium. Many of the channel Apps have a "Live" option that lets you stream the channel live just like you would watch it live on Satellite or Cable as long as you have a valid subscription to that channel. The sacrifice is giving up the convenience of having an easy to use channel guide. It's well worth it in my opinion as I think they will eventually get the channel guide thing figured out. Some apps that have multiple obscure streaming channels bundled already have an internal channel guide for those channels and the Tablo I use for local channels has it's own guide as well. |
