When they reached that point they put it down and didn't go back to that same level again. I'm not discounting physical addictions, but sometimes a guy just wants to drink and party. Maybe JB just likes that more than playing football and he reached the point where he can afford not to. Addiction goes beyond physical dependence. There's a psychological aspect to it too which is why people who have recovered even for years can relapse. If someone is still getting busted after everything he's gone through, then it's definitely not a "want to" issue at that point.
