Yikes... the worst thing that can happen is that he becomes jaded by the process.  If it gets that far it would certainly affect his play if he were to join the club.  He may be better off just sitting out at that point.  You can't be your best if you aren't happy, and that wouldn't be good for either party.

 

Should someone trade for him, or draft him next year, then chances are they're more willing to deal with him.  They are aware of the challenge up front, ahead of time.

 

One thing's for sure... if he goes elsewhere, he isn't getting the deal he's been offered.  He's almost like a titled car now.  There's no way for him to prove, without getting on the field, he's worth any more than what the Chargers are currently offering.  Any other offer will be at a discount from there.  He'll not get anything more, and the Chargers aren't likely to get anything to fully compensate for a #3 overall value.
