It cant be both...

 

The team has to be able to make their definitive evaluation of Gabbert this year.  They will never know if he can throw the ball down field and move the offense until he, you know actually tries to throw the ball down field.  If he plays out the season only throwing 5 yard dinks and dunks they will have to assume he can't do it.  If he becomes more aggressive and constantly throws interceptions they will know he can't do it.  The only chance he has of saving his career is to show that he can throw down field consistently and successfully moves the offense.
