This is ultimately what it comes down to. Are you willing to spend more on consumer goods to get people off of welfare/minimum wage and into full-time employment. It is a tough balancing act. People like their cheap Wal-Mart goods. Perhaps this is where morality comes into play and we have to decide if our neighbors more important than our cheap iPhones.

 

Of course the micro and macroeconomics are much more complicated that that, but it's the general idea.
