The St. Lucie Fire Department said the victim, a woman in her late 50s, was suffering from cardiac arrest while wind gusts were at 68 mph. The fire department said crews could not safely respond and the woman died by the time crews arrived. The hurricane had already claimed hundreds of lives as it tore through Haiti and other Caribbean nations. |
