I agree.   What the politicians are selling is snake oil.  

 

"If we increase spending in this area, it will actually reduce the debt."  

 

The only way to reduce deficits is to cut spending, raise taxes, or both.   There's no pain-free way to get the debt under control.  

 

By the way, I've figured out a way to control diabetes and let you eat as much candy and pizza as you want!   That's what they're selling.
