You can elect to turn a blind eye all you like, but if I'm running against a black man in a political race, I'm not going to imply that a vote for my opponent would "monkey it up."  It's just poor judgement given the history of the word's connotation in our society. I'm not demonizing the guy or the word at face value. 

Is it silly?  Yeah, on the surface it is. And, no, of course the word isn't off limits, LOL. But if you're running for public office - you could certainly be smarter about using it than DeSantis was in this instance.

That ISN'T what happened here and that people are trying to link the two isn't even a reach... it's stupid. 
I'm saying if we're going to let people start policing our words THIS much.... it's a serious problem.

Deciding what someone meant by applying a totally different meaning to what they said is mind-boggling.
Are we really suggesting that anyone, even someone running for public office, has to give pause with every question they are asked... with every statement they make... to think how it might possibly be twisted to offend someone?
