What a buffoon!  On TV this morning he was asked about his challenger, said the guy was clearly the more articulate and better candidate among the Dem primary, even if he was a longshot.  And then said the guy supports all these socialists causes, open border, eliminating ICE and that the people of Florida shouldn't "monkey this up" by putting in a guy with those policies.  

Now I dont know much about DeSantis.  Assuming is a smart guy.  Yale, Harvard Law.  But how in the world do you make a statement like that?  As a conservative in the political arena, the Left will always try to paint you as a racist.  Bush was a racist.  Romney.  Before all these over the top homages, McCain was a racist.  If they caught you sifting out the black jelly beans because you dont like the taste of licorice, it would be your subconscious racism.  And everyone knows this.  So how in the world do you make a slip up like this?  Do you not prepare yourself in the slightest?  

I have no idea if he has any history of racism.  If this is a trend, then it's very possible he is a racist.  If not I suppose you should give him the benefit of the doubt that maybe this is a phrase he uses all the time and had no ill will.  But gimme a break.  What a boob.

I doubt it was strategic.  If you’re a white guy running against a black guy, I think right there you automatically have the hard core racist vote.  Not knowing much about him either, nor reading into the story or his explanation, I’d assume it was a slip.  Unless I’ve been surrounded by racists, all my life, I’ve heard that phrase plenty without even thinking twice about it.  I guess I look at the phrase like that song by the Monkees.  When they say “people say we monkey around’. I was little. Maybe they were racist and I was just too naive at the time.

Regarding the first part in bold, yes some people do get "offended" way too easily in today's society.  I put it in quotes because some things are twisted to make it appear offensive even though that wasn't the intent.  I believe that was the case in this "incident" (non-story).

Regarding the second part in bold, DeSantis did not associate his opponent with a monkey with his statement.  The phrase "monkey it up" is a nice way of saying not to [BLEEP] (mess) it up without using profanity and was directed or associated with the voters of Florida not his opponent.
