About 10 years ago I ran the Tour de Pain, with the 1 miler being run downtown. Afterwards there was free beer and pizza at the Landing for the runners. The poor girls handing out the pizza had a heck of a time turning some homeless guys away, explaining that it was for event participants. Finally, one of them had an absolute meltdown in the middle of the crowd, screaming and throwing his things around. He was calmed down and escorted away by some of the runners. A couple of cops stood on the side and did absolutely nothing.

What gets me is that some are proposing the Landing area be turned into a park, aka, a homeless encampment area. Part of the reason Jacksonville lags other large cities is because our leadership is rife with morons. We've been blessed with all that waterfront property to develop, something other cities would drool over, and yet it remains a place to avoid. Hopefully Khan can get the idiots in charge, and their voters, to see the light.
