Not Tom Coughlin the Executive Vice President Of Football Operations. The biggest mistake Weaver and some of the fans at that time ever made was convincing themselves that firing Tom Coughlin as our football coach was the right thing to do. I think time has proven that it was a mistake. https://www.bizjournals.com/jacksonville...aily9.html The fact that Tom's downfall was because of some of his personnel decisions and salary cap issues that were not properly handled up front is all but telling of how the last two years have been handled by him in his new role though as you mentioned above. Tom is a coach. Not a general manager. Not a front office kind of guy. He doesn't belong in a suit. He belongs in a hat and polo with a whistle around his neck. He tries like hell and he's had some good moments over the years with some players but he's not Bill Belichick. He can't do it all. Not even their mentor Bill Parcells could handle being a General Manager or a EVPOF. He was terrible at it as well. He's just a damn good football coach. Ernie Accorsi & Jerry Reese made Tom's life easier in the Big Apple. This experiment needs to end already though. His press conference the other day bothered me. That's not the Tom I grew up watching and remembered respecting. It felt like this scene below yesterday: "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. The subtle tongue, the sophist guile, they fail when the broadswords sing; Rush in and die, dogs - I was a man before I was a king." |
