Something similar happened with another Jaguars great running back…

2006, Greg Jones was the Jaguars RB2, behind Fred Taylor. During the scrimmage that year, Jones was wearing the knee-high-white socks and was primed for an expanded role.

2006 was also the year the Jaguars drafted Maurice Jones-Drew in the 2nd round, as he joined a crowded backfield with guys Alvin Pearman, LaBrandon Toefield, and future Pro Bowler, Montell Owens, and of course the greatest Jaguars RB of all-time, Fred Taylor. (Fred, MJD, Montell all future Pro Bowlers at this point, and Jones was a Pro Bowl alternate at one point…talk about a stacked backfield)

Preseason game #3 the Jaguars play the Buccaneers, and Greg Jones took a handoff and rushed for a 7 yard gain and ended up tearing his knee up.

Jones-Drew was elevated to RB2 and the rest is history.

Fun Fact: Jones-Drew only played 1 game with Drew on his jersey, which was against the Miami Dolphins during the preseason.
