Quote:It was the last defensive play of the game and the play that clinched a win over a hated rival and put the team in the Super Bowl.

It was the emotion of the moment.

We fans ask players to play like they care...play with emotion.

He made the most important play of his career in the biggest game of his career, and you want him to just shut off his emotions?!?

I get what you are saying...but see the other side.
I hear you.  I just have a lot more respect for players that play with heart but don't feel the need to act like idiots.

It's a matter of class. Some have it, some demonstrate that they don't.

Functionally, how is this any different from trash talk between fans, whether at the stadium, in a sports bar, or on a message board?

And then some get whooped by Andre Johnson. Sherman is Cortland Finnegan with talent. He's good but he's real good but he's a total DB. Personalities like him are bad for the game.

Fans aren't role models on national tv.

As professionals they have a certain responsibility to the game and the league to keep that stuff under control.

No, but they are role models to their kids...or their nieces/nephews...and can influence peers.

Sherman is a stud on the field but I don't care for him off of it. He let his emotions get the best of him but he wasn't vulgar or anything like that on TV. Its not a big deal IMO.

So because fans aren't necessarily affiliated with an organization that might hold them to a higher standard when it comes to trash talk, that means exchanging trash talk is classier between fans than it is between Sherman and Crabtree?

I get that he's emotional, and I understand that.  I get emotional sometimes too, and I don't usually scream about it to a camera showing myself to millions of viewers or random strangers.

A little self-control would be warranted.

I get that he hasn't been there before, but that doesn't mean he has to act like an absolute moron.

Deacon, come on, man.  I don't expect anything from professional athletes that I don't expect from myself or every other person on the earth.  Would you be proud if the team you coach behaved this way when they won?  I know I'd be disappointed in my sons if they did.  Win with dignity, that's all.

Sure, he can be excited.  Sure, he can be angry/pumped/amped, whatever.  But that doesn't excuse that type of classless behavior.

Bullseye, the issue is not that he trash talked.  The classlessness came in when he decided to scream into a camera and at a reporter about it instead of answering her questions.  He acted like a tool.  I honestly can't believe some of you guys are defending this.

Normally, I really respect your opinion, but I just don't see your point of view here.

If I behaved like that on tv while representing my company I would be fired. Fans are not professionals doing a job. That's all I'm saying.

If some one acted like that in front of their nieces and nephews, they have problems.

Richard Sherman could learn plenty about humility and class from Russell Wilson.   These players are polar opposites in terms of how they handle themselves as NFL players.

Some people are sore losers.  Sherman is a lousy winner.

So screaming into a camera and not answering a reporter's questions is the crime here?!?

Have you ever seen local news coverage before or after a game?  Fans scream into cameras all the time.  And don't get me started about subjects of media interviews not answering questions.
