There are 12-13% of head coaches that are black, right? I see that 13% number thrown around to justify the black head coach hires. The reality is that only 4% of the American population is black males. White males make up approximately 37% of the American population. That works out to somewhere around 75% of the male population being white. Alternatively, black males only make up about 8% of the male population.

 

The only races under-represented are Asians (East Asian and South Asian) and Hispanic. But even then, many Hispanics identify with the "white" label anyway. I haven't seen you push for them. 

 

I see an issue of hiring qualified candidates. Period. There is such a high turnover rate with head coaches nowadays that it doesn't seem like it's as easy as you make it out to be. 

 

I'll stick to hiring the most qualified candidate, and you can stick to having "diversity".

It's pretty crazy. You can't have decent back and forth when people have agendas. I am just glad some see it and have called those folks to the rug like I have for a while now. Same story, different day, (or thread).

 

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas spoke today at Palm Beach Atlantic Univ and put things into perspective perfectly. The gist of it? "Society is oversensitive about race". I will try to find the articles on the visit and speech that he gave today and link it.

The title of this thread makes me a bit sad - why be have to say "black" or whatever.. ugh it sounds cliché but I honestly did not think about the fact that RW was black! Just that he was AWESOME!!!!

Fascinating take. So if, as LoJack writes, black players play harder for black coaches, does that mean that (broadly speaking here) black players are racist? Is that something to be concerned about or it it a case of human nature that can't be altered? Should owners and GMs hire black coaches solely to get the most effort out of their majority-black rosters? Or could he be mistaken and Swartz is just a piece of garbage who wasn't worthy of respect no matter what his skin color? Very complicated issues.

 

 

It's indeed very complicated issues.  

 

In context of what you expressed and the overall discussion,  it's worth keeping in mind that LoJack has very little respect for Jim Schwartz.   Yet,  he still believes that the color of Jim Caldwell's skin should aid the Lions.

From my perspective as a Lions fan,  it remains to be seen if Caldwell will be successful.   But clearly, Caldwell has much more positive to offer than his skin color.   Caldwell is a very highly respected coach,  as two of the players that gave him amongst the strongest endorsements were Peyton Manning and Jeff Saturday.  Both of them have white skin.
