In Chaison's defense, he has been miscast for 2 seasons in defenses that didn't fit what he was projected to do well.

On top of that he was always project and has had to learn 3 defenses in 3 season.

As this point, there is no reason to keep him on and hope it all comes together.

The problem Chaisson has is he was drafted in the 1st round. There's a certain level of expectation and he's come nowhere near it sadly. Then look at someone like Ngakoue as  3rd rounder and he was way above that level.

I agree with you that we haven't done a lot to help him in terms of system and where we've lined him up but for me, the 1st round pick label is what causes a lot of the criticism.

The round you were drafted in is irrelevant in your 3rd year.

His problem seems to me to be that he's not a guy that loves playing football.

He's a guy that will give the minimum effort to keep his paycheck coming. Drafting someone like him in the first round was a huge mistake, he was already set from his first contract and therefore done with real effort.

I get that. When he was going one on one with T's he seemed to know he couldn't win so a lot of the time didn't even try to win. Its a tough job in the trenches and like you say, I'm not sure he's that kind of guy.

IDK how you guys feel about this, but Cam Robinson showing off like he is some elite talent is agitating. He is good but not elite. He has been so cocky recently such as yawning in training camp. They just showed him on the sideline and I get he is a professional with a massive contract but i dont like the vibe he has been giving off recently. Just a minor annoyance. I hope he is a good teammate tho

We definitely need this extra preseason game.

I know we have several starters out this game, but we look as unprepared as ever. We should be able to show at least some signs of life.

I agree on the level of expectation and and round where they were drafted.

But Ngakoue vs Chaisson is wierd comparison.

Ngakoue had one 1 major skill where he he near elite -- pass rushing. But he is is average or below average everything else. He was perfectly cast on the early Jags teams, and consistently fills needs on other teams when he fills that sole need. But there is a reason he is already on his 4th team.

Chaisson was best suited for a jack-of-trades position on a 3-4 defense that valued his versatility and coached up his ceiling, basically the Patriots style defenses of a few years ago. Instead he was drafted to a team that wanted to turn him into a pash rusher, and did a horrible job trying to develop that skill.

I will grant you that he takes some blame for development having had 2 off seasons to work on skills and not showing anything yet. But in a different multiverse, he is a key starter for a different team.

Absolutely true. I just don't think you can call a 1st round pick a 'project'. They have to have more than that and he really hasn't shown it. I'm just saying if he was drafted as a 5th/6th rounder then you may see if he's starting to put it all together but I'm with you. He's had enough chances and done very little with them.

Run defense is only as good as its weakest link.  Just like pass protection.  Lots of weak links out there today.  I just hope it gets better.

Um. It is the first preseason game and a game 1 week earlier than you normally play your first preseason game. No one is expecting teams to be prepared for this type of preseason game.

Which is always why I thought the Hall of Fame game at this point in the season is weird. Why wouldn't you make the Hall of Game between two good teams that are a playing meaningful game?

Logan Cooke is by far our best player in this game.

That was an underwhelming 1st half effort.

First this is not a game. It has all the earmarks of a televised scrimmage with the Jags playing the part of the scout team.  Second I was wrong before the game thinking it might not be as ugly as last year.  Yea I know the starters are not playing but Raider depth much better than Jags depth by a wide margin.

Rome wasn't built in a day and honestly Peterson didn't take extra practices, early camp start or anything to hurry us along. Until I see it on the field, this is a team that has sucked for 9/10 ths of the Khan error.

Probably be more worried if they looked like world beaters in a preseason game.
