Blake through 16 starts

Quote:. But nobody wants to give him a fair shot; which is what is needed instead of knee jerk reactions; again I say, do we really want to be the Browns of the south?

what are you talking about?  where are these people calling for Chad Henne?  Where are all the people saying to tank so we can draft another QB next year?

Nobody is saying that.  We're giving him a fair shot.  He's gonna have basically 2 full years at least (and probably 3 regardless of how her plays) to prove himself.

Hardly knee-jerk.

Quote:I would have really liked for him to be better in today's game, especially against a below average Pats defense, but it just didn't happen.

I really don't think it's accurate to say the Pats defense is below average. This comes from a below average ranking after two weeks, however, that's based on them facing two very high power offenses with the Steelers and Bills.

The Bills are averaging 33 pts per game.

Quote:Bortles had 11 TD's in 13 starts last year. And has 5 TD's in 3 starts this year. That's a pretty significant improvement so far.

He's on track to blow his rookie stats out if the water.... but you know, he's a terrible 2nd year qb.

McCoy, Watkins, Woods, Clay, that's a pretty good group of high powered offensive names

before we get all giddy with his stats, let's be real - he got like 60 of his yards and that last TD while down 41 points in garbage time.

And it's Bortles fault that the D... never... not once stopped the Pats?

Blakes QBR last year was all of 2 points higher than Gabbert's first year.  Gabbert had a higher TD % and lower INT %.  I wouldn't be getting giddy about anything at this point.  Stay hopeful yes, but cautiously.

No.. Did anyone suggest it's his fault?

It's his fault we were down 20-3 instead of probably being down 13-3 or 13-6 at the half though.

The guy is raw enough to where he definitely didn't warrant the 3rd selection in the draft, if you draft a guy that early he needs to make an immediate impact (see Mariota). I want to see Blake put together a true mistake free game, he only has 3 picks but it could easily be 6-7. His overall stat line looks better than how he's actually playing, I'm not sure how this isn't a concern for most Jaguar fans, he has yet to show why he was drafted above his QB peers, not to mention young studs like Khalil Mack, Mike Evans, Watkins, O'dell Beckham etc... If the Jaguars get blown out next week in Indy there needs to be significant changes to this front office and coaching staff.

Quote:Stats through 16 starts. First game at Indy last year omitted bc he didn't start.

3365 yards 16 tds 20 ints 57.9%

Rating 70.1

Noticeably better the past 3 games so I expect the stats to trend upwards.

That's not a bad stat line at all for a rookie/raw qb. Especially with the offense last year.

To be fair if Blake Bortles played on the Patriots in Brady's absence with those weapons, the protection and coaching he would look a lot better...

but he doesn't ... so

you have to judge his performance based on the team he plays for...

One of Bortles problems is he needs to release the ball quicker, make faster choices of who to throw to, and try to throw deep more often..

Quote:Pretty sure I heard/read that Bellichick is notorious for his game planning to confuse the heck out of young QBs. It worked well

While that might be true, he should NOT confuse the heck out of the head coach and offensive coordinator too, should he?

Who's to say he did? How do we know the plays weren't called perfectly fine and Blake and the team around him just didn't execute well?

Living in Florida, you all should have seen this coming. Bortles had all these issues at UCF -- inaccuracy, poor decision-making, etc. It was all on display in college. He played in a below-average conference and hardly dominated. If a guy isn't absolutely great in the lowly AAC, how is he going to be great in the NFL?

So many comparisons to Big Ben, which was always ridiculous. Bortles has one thing in common with Roethlisberger, and one thing only: his size. That's it. He doesn't have the arm, accuracy or mind of Big Ben. Not even close. The Jags spent the third overall pick on the hope that Bortles' game would one day catch up to his size, and that was always fool's gold. If Bortles was 6'2", he would have been undrafted with his skill set. All he has is his size.

The #3 overall pick, spent on a prayer. Good luck.

Now that's confusing and disappointing at the same time.

He's a bust. Inaccurate, poor decisions... and it's all been there to see since his college days.

Quote:He actually already has more td than interceptions. 5 to 3. Against 3 solid defenses and missing many offensive weapons. But it's okay to over exaggerate things if that makes you feel better
Riiiight. This guy is simply not a good QB. Many of those TDs were in garbage time. He's inaccurate and routinely makes poor decisions, and those things aren't going to change.
