2014 World Cup Discussion Thread

Quote:Either stop calling/carding contact fouls unless you actually see exactly what happened or have replay installed so the refs can look and see if it was a flop or legit penalty. If it deemed to be a flop, then the flopping player is ejected immediately from the game and then serves a 1 game suspension the very next game, thereby forfeiting his next game paycheck.

If a player chalks up a certain # of flops, then he gets suspended 3 games or something like that.

If the league gets tough and firm on stopping flopping, they will cut it down drastically.

I doubt that will ever happen though, because flopping is just part of the game.

I sure would like to see it though.

That will just flip the balance the other way with defenders trying to make legit fouls look like flops.

ALl you need to do to stop flopping is to stop giving them penalties for it. If a player thinks his best chamce to score is by staying upright he won't have any incentive to go to the ground.

i dont think the ejection would need to be in place... i think fines alone would slow it down... it would be enforced a day later and give the league time to look it over... i think the real problem would be that might not get enforced in most lower divisions of soccer where people dont make enough money to be fined.

also i wonder how long the games would be if they stopped the clock.

But you can't tell when they are running fool speed. That's why they flop. To make it look like there was a foul.

I agree that the flopping is ridiculous at times and needs to be discouraged...I would just hate to see replay installed. I prefer watching/attending soccer games over most sports because it is largely uninterrupted by timeouts/officiating/commercial breaks.

I guess France is pretty good.

Even though I wanted Italy to win, I think it's better that they lost.  Now we get to see a do-or-die match between them and Uruguay.  I'm looking forward to that.  Hopefully Balotelli gets some touches in the second half.

How is the next round determined?

Points then goal difference. Not sure whether it's results against tied teams or goals scored after that

a: greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;

b: goal difference in all group matches;

c: greatest number of goals scored in all group matches.

If two or more teams are equal on the basis of the above three criteria, their rankings shall be determined as follows:

d: greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned;

e: goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned;

f: greater number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned;

g: drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee.

Absolute best scenario we could hope for. Also says a lot about the USofA win.

Yep which should give us a lot of confidence against Portugal.

Can you imagine what a confidence booster it would be if we win tomorrow and draw against Germany? Whoever would have thought the US would come out on top of the group of death?
