I really want to see this but I cannot stand Andrew Garfield's voice. Like, I would rather gouge my eyes out with hot pokers.

I just finished Be Here Now, the documentary of Andy Whitfield, the original 'Spartacus' of the Starz series Spartacus, and his battle and loss to non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. He, his wife and a film crew followed the journey. It's unreal how aggressive the cancer was. He started out with stage four, was treated and it seemed to go away but then kept coming back in ways that was considered seriously abnormal for NHL. 

 

Spartacus was the only show I ever saw Whitfield in but I loved how he made the character his own and I have never been able to watch the rest of the series outside of one episode after they had to recast the character. Even knowing the outcome of the story I kept hoping it wouldn't happen, kind of like watching Titanic and hoping it doesn't sink.

Go see Logan.

Went and saw this today. OMGoodness. What a film that was. It makes everything else pale in comparison. I liked X-Men Origins Wolverine and The Wolverine just fine but this is a masterpiece. This is how I imagined Logan to be, not the neutered version in previous movies. I wish studios would stop catering to a certain demographic when it comes to certain characters/subjects.

 

And the finale. Just wow.

I liked it better than I thought I would. I wasn't sure if I would like Marky Mark in it but he got out of his own way and I was able to appreciate it.

My cousin was there in Boston, cheering on her friends that were running in that race.. She was only a couple of blocks away from the initial explosion. She said that once she heard it, she ran into a store and took cover.. Her friends made it out too. They were still running when they went off..


You can read about the events, watch the movie and the news.. But when someone was actually there and they recount the images and scene for ya, it really gets put into perspective.

When it comes on Movie HD I'll give it a shot but I'm not paying to watch that. Plenty of others movies that have come out or will be coming out this year are worth seeing tho.

New movies I've seen in the last few weeks:

 

Fifty Shades Darker: Dumb. The story really made no sense to me and, of course, the only thing anyone cares about are the sex scenes anyway. Third one has potential to be a decent action/mystery/thriller but it won't happen.

 

Get Out: Enjoyable. Just a tad overhyped IMO, but it was still pretty good.

 

Logan: What americus said... a masterpiece. Absolutely loved it. I have loved X-Men and Wolverine since I was a kid, so I went on a feels trip at the end.

 

John Wick 2: Disappointing. I mean, it's entertaining, but too over the top for my liking. The first one was great though.

My husband wants to see this. I'm on the fence. Neither one of us are gamers so I'm not sure where the interest is coming from. He used to have a game system but that was years ago.

It's pretty crazy because I really don't think it is that difficult to make a decent movie adaptation of a video game.

Just watched the movie Passengers. Pretty damn good..

 

Passengers is probably one of the the worst movies I've seen in a while.  I was in disbelief.  It's a scifi movie where they could have done anything, and they did next to nothing.

Hidden Figures is a good movie. I forgot I saw it until something reminded me of it. 

 

I had no idea women of any race worked at NASA back in the day for anything other than secretary so I was stoked to know there were women with advanced degrees who were integral in the space program, and not because they knew how to type up a good memo. Though we have all seen movies from the time just before and during the Civil Rights Era, it was really a different POV for me to see how black women were treated back then in a workplace such as NASA. White women didn't have it much better but they had it better than black women. 

 

When I get the chance I want to read the book the movie was drawn from. Books always go more in depth and I would like to know more about these pioneering women who made such a difference, a major difference, in the space program. 

 

Also, has anyone seen the trailer for The Circle? We saw it when we watch Logan and I went online to get more info and found out it's taken from a book of the same name. I got the book and OMGoodness it's weird. It's the modern version of 1984, which I have tried several times to read the book and watch the movie but just couldn't get into either one though I do know the subject matter. The place described in the book reminds me of Google or Facebook, even Apple in what little I know about Apple.

 

A social media company that pretty much has the idea to take over every aspect of life; how to pay all your bills in one place, getting rid of paper money, putting cameras everywhere to keep an eye on everything, social media on steroids, etc. Last night I was reading how they had the idea to have everyone who wanted a Circle account to be forced to register to vote and when registered they pester the crap out of you to vote on voting day. If you don't, who knows what they would do. I didn't get past that before I had to go to sleep. It comes out the 28th. I may have to go see it.
