Todd Gurley Medical Recheck

#21

Quote:It's realistically possible the Chargers could take CB Trae Waynes , NT Danny Shelton, or OLB ( 3-4 ) Shane Ray if available with pick # 16. With the plan of addressing the RB position in Round 2 or 3. The Chargers can use help at all of these positions and might conclude there's more depth at RB in the draft than at these other positions.

Yeah, the exceptionally deep RB class may hurt the top backs. I think Gurley is on a tier all his own, but there isn't much of a difference between #2 and #6-7 in this class. Why not grab one in the second or even third and focus on positions that hold more value and/or have a significant drop off from it's top tier players. Good backs like David Johnson, Duke Johnson, or Ameer Abdullah may be sitting there at the top of the third.

The Chargers pick at #17.

They will likely be the key if we want Gurley. If they pass on him, or trade up or behind our 2nd pick, then I feel there is a good chance we could get him.

The next team that needs a running back is the Lions at #23. That leaves 5 teams that could trade back for our 2nd and 3rd rounders, which is approximate value for those picks. Of course, the Texans could throw a wrench in that by drafting Gurley at #16.

Regarding Jay Ajayi:

Tweet from Dane Brugler (@dpbrugler) - Bad news on #BoiseState RB Jay Ajayi. Talking to several teams and his Combine re-check did not go well. The knee is a "strong" concern

Tweet from Ryan O'Halloran (@ryanohalloran) - Ajayi said last week #Jaguars were one of teams who had expressed most interest. https://twitter.com/dpbrugler/status/590218879323901953

Just saw that. He was a guy I wanted with our 2nd round pick. If his knee is that big of a concern, he'll fall to day 3.

Not good for him, but might be good for us, we could get him later in the draft

Per rotoworld:

Quote:Agent: Ajayi was not at medical recheck

Jay Ajayi | CLG

(April 20, 2015 6:03 PM EDT)

Updating a previous item, the agent for Boise State RB Jay Ajayi says his client did not attend the Combine medical recheck last weekend.

Prospects with medical concerns are annually told to attend the Combine medical recheck. Agent Eric Burkhardt says Ajayi was not told to attend, which suggests NFL teams are comfortable with the condition of his knee despite reports to the contrary. As we originally suspected, the concern over Ajayi's knee appears to have been overblown, and may have been disseminated as a "smokescreen" by clubs hoping Ajayi falls to them in the draft.

Don't fall for the hype. Its 10 days before the draft.
