Those of us with jobs have been paying into medicare and social security our entire working lives...you really want to get rid of those programs?

No, I just want to bend the curve a little so they are sustainable. If we can't do that, we won't survive as a prosperous country. And then those programs won't even exist at all. So really the choice is clear- take less, or go bankrupt.

I expect within the next few years that the age to collect social security will start rising. We are living much longer and thus social programs meant for the elderly will have to adjust accordingly.

Not that I expect anyone to be as nerdy as I, but here is a U.S. Debt simulator. Try your hand at attempting to balance or stabilize debt to GDP. Not easy and some tough choices while adjusting amounts.

I started to do it, but the choices are limited and slanted.

I think Medicare is the killer. That's the ticking bomb that will bankrupt us. We can fix Social Security by raising the retirement age and doing a few other little adjustments. I don't know what we're going to do about Medicare.

I'm all for phasing out Social Security for starters.  A huge problem for some people is that they rely on the program as their "retirement income".  That's not what it's for.

As far as Medicare, this would be another program that I would be in favor of phasing out.  Health savings accounts are a much better idea.

Quote:I never threatened the president. I suspect his chances of catching a bullet are increasing by the day (though I wouldn't be the one firing the gun). 'Murica does not like dictators.

You're kidding right, he's a dictator?

I'd agree if you tried to argue Bush, Obama, heck even Clinton did some dictatorish stuff in his day. But what the hell has Trump actually done in less than a week to be classified as a dictator?

Phase it out and give me in my working 30's a chance to opt out. If I go broke it's my fault and I'll die off early.

That's the major issue right now... at what age do you cut it off?

For me personally, I've already saved enough for my retirement so I don't really need Social Security, but by the same token I'm still entitled to the benefit given that I've contributed to it for several years.

The same pretty much goes for health insurance.  I personally have a policy through my employer, and I do have a Health Savings account.  My problem is that my policy is way too expensive and covers things that I'll never need (child birth as an example).  Take that part out of my policy and reduce my premium.

I'll use the funds in my Health Savings account to pay for routine health care, and if my wife or I have a catastrophic event, we have insurance to help us.  That's the way that it should be.

Not at all, our money is safe in The Lockbox. The solution is to phase it out for younger people who've not paid in, say anyone born after 2005 for example is exempted from those programs.

Medicare is only the killer because it's the foundation of all of our healthcare practice and financing models. They're wasting time and money with Population Health Management on a population that won't be managed. Eliminate the requirements and costs for prevention and return to working disease and age management and we'd be fine. Instead we're spending trillions of dollars focusing on pie in the sky socialist ideals that, like all their other ideals, aren't possible.

You realize there is official protocol for that type of release out of respect for the member and family right? Of course you don't. Go check all the government related media and tell me what you find. News outlets give two [BLEEP]! Classy post as usual.

Quote:No it won't. Some people are just lazy and just don't want to work. They wanna skate through life and have others pay their way. That's a fact..

You know what can constitute as an affordable wage? 40 hours a week and a good budget. I had to rely on that for years. Why can't the majority?

Doesn't work that way, the working poor (people who are working full time) are quickly becoming the majority dependent on government assistance.
