I think the "in Gene we trust" mantra was a form of sarcasm from the people who wanted him gone. Not sure the OP meant it in the same way. I think you generally should give a GM the benefit of the doubt the first 3 seasons or so. So, let me say "in Dave we provisionally trust". Smile

Sorry, it was not 5 games.   He was traded on October 1.

But, my point is, Eugene Monroe was a free agent at the end of that season.   He hit the open market.   All we traded was the tail end of his last season.

If we had wanted to re-sign him, we could have signed him whether we traded him or not, because he became a free agent at the end of that season.   We could have traded him for those two draft picks and still re-signed him at the end of the year.

So what we really gave up in that trade was the tail end of his last season on his contract.   So we definitely got the better end of that trade.

But it originated in an absolute blind faith people had in Smith after he was hired.

I don't know why you people still miss the fact that Monroe was a free agent at the end of the year. Whether we draft Joeckel or not, Monroe walks to another team. It wasn't a choice between Monroe and Joeckel; it was a choice between Monroe for the tail end of one season, or 4th and 5th round picks.

I get it. We could've resigned him. We probably should've resigned him.

The reason we didn't pursue that is because we drafted Luke.

Our GM was counting on Luke being better. He's not.

I'm saying that is nonsense.   The Eugene Monroe trade has already worked out for us, because what we traded was the last 12 or so games of his contract in exchange for 4th and 5th round draft picks, which we used to draft Telvin Smith and Aaron Colvin.

We cleaned up in that deal.   We traded less than a year of Eugene Monroe for picks that we turned into two great young players.

It was a brilliant move.   I don't see how anyone can argue that.

Now, you can say, we should have re-signed Monroe. But that is irrelevant to the trade.   We could have signed Monroe whether we traded him or not.   We could have signed him even after we traded him, because he became a free agent at the end of that year and put himself on the market to the highest bidder. So that has nothing to do with that trade.

The second pick we got from the Ravens resulted in Chris Smith.

The first pick we got resulted in Aaron Colvin.

But the picks also gave us the flexibility to trade other picks to move up to get Robinson and Linder.

I know. I keep telling people all we need to do is trade all the bad players for high draft picks and sign a bunch of great players in free agency. It's not that hard.

My reasoning for being supportive comes from the stadium reactions when a play is called that makes you say WHAT THE (bad word removed) was he thinking. An play to which we needed thirteen yards and an five route flat route is called. An play when we're in need of an offensive spark and he dials up an Dud play. A play that he calls resulting in being Booed in his own stadium. I truly would've liked to see Fisch play out his contract but Bradley put the friendship aside and did what's best for the team... Literally Speaking...

I for one am buying into what Gus Bradley is doing here... he's simply making a change because Jedd didn't fit his culture of what he wanted to accomplish, he sensed that Jedd was going off course and decided to pull the trigger early rather than wait till next year and were expecting a borderline playoff team and god knows what happens? That's really anyone's guess and im not interested in ever knowing because I believe in what were doing, its irrelevant to me... I've been patient all along, I continue to give them my full support.

Guys, please relax and understand that this is for the long-term - sure maybe next year we go out and get 4 wins, hell maybe we win 8 and this conversation looks real good on my part and not only management but who cares? The fact is... the front office didn't like where they were going and they cut it off before it created a cancer in the dressing room or front office that makes it even harder to correct.

We still have another draft inside the top 3 to grab our beloved LEO PASS RUSHER at last or perhaps we surprise, whatever the case... Were still the Jaguars in Jacksonville, please continue to support!!!

IN DAVE WE TRUST!!

A great coach wouldve sensed that problem with Fisch and not selected him as the OC or after the first season wouldve fired him, but Gus fired Jedd Fisch (lets be truly honest here) as an escape goat to two failed seasons.

I am not saying Fisch didnt deserve to be fired, I mean two seasons of having the 31st ranked Offense in the NFL despite the high draft picks in Offense and Free Agency is the cause overall but they had to fire somebody this offseason and he was simply the worst of the worst.
