How much is this play time really helping Blake?

The playcalling seems like an admission that this year is a lost cause and just run out the clock and the season will be over soon.

i think you may be on to something

it doesnt even look like we are trying to score

the things we call are baffling

1st and 10 we call a screen to Marcedes 5 yards behind the LOS and he's tackled for a 5 yard loss

2nd and 15 we call an outside zone running play thats stopped for no gain

3rd and 15 we call a quick slant for 5 yards

dude i think you might be right.

Today's game with BB at QB looked a lot like the Jags used to look with Henne and even Gabbert back there.

It was very discouraging to see, but I keep telling myself Bortles is only in single digits as far as NFL games go and starts he has made.

With the way Bortles has regressed over these last few games, I'm not very encouraged about the last 5 games of the season.

I just don't believe that our coaching staff is going to do anything different then what we have seen over and over and over again this season.

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

This showing was especially poor coming off of a bye week.

They are playing like they have something to lose. This season is already lost, let the kid chuck the [BLEEP] football.

I don't know if Bortles is the answer, if the play calling stays the way it is, we will never know.

I think Bortles has given this coaching staff zero confidence to throw intermediate and deep balls.

They literally scared to death he will get picked off.

Hell, even minimizing his throws to short and easy passes today and he still got picked off on the first time the ball had to travel more than 10 yards in the air.

What exactly are they scared of, that we will lose games and miss the playoffs?

That it'll be 28-0 at the half cuz of pick sixes?

This conservative crap kept it competitive in the first half.

Perhaps with Blake gunslinging it down the field, we would've turned the ball over another 2 times.

I'm not giving Bortles a pass anymore. He has to show me he can be somewhat accurate.

They are scared of seeing exactly what happened against Miami

Yes, that was a bad pass by Bortles. He's making mistakes on his own, aside from the play calls.

Though the irony of this conservative short game we keep playing is that it's making things harder for him. Defenses don't respect anything beyond 5 yards of the line of scrimmage, so they squat on those routes and jump them. This inevitably makes all of those lanes crowded and it looks harder / worse than it would if we used the rest of the field.

The idea that short passes are easy competitions falls apart when the defense knows it's coming and has no fear you'll test them over the top.

play calling, drops and bad offensive line play is killing Blake right now. We need to give him a better cast of people around him.

You're right, that could happen. But we already know how this "avoid making a throw" plan ends up.

The other thing that could happen is that Blake makes plays and gets us some points. Maybe even gains some confidence or learns something from his mistakes. What can he learn from dump offs and screens all day long?

We won't even let him try when down 20 in the 4th. Why, because it might get picked?

Blake's inaccuracy is killing Fisch's ability to call more elaborate plays.

Let's not leave him out of this picture.  It takes a lot of players doing a poor job to be this bad.  Blake is part of the problem.

The only thing he's got going for himself now is the fact that he's a rookie.  That's why I'm giving him a pass.  Looking at performance only though, he was absolutely abysmal.

Well, we tried some obvious longer pass plays that take a little longer to develop, and Blake was sacked twice in a row.

The offensive line can't protect for very long at all.  Maybe Blake needs to do a better job of "checking out" of some sure blitzes in those situations, but I'm not going to pretend that I know what the playcall was, etc.

We try some stuff here and there - and the vast majority of the time, passing the ball down the field leads to bad things for this offense.

So why is Bortles playing, and not Henne?

If this is true, then they should be fired.  Tomorrow morning first thing.  Coaching Scared doesn't win games.  Keeping them close?  Don't make me laugh. We're not keeping them close anyway.  Anybody who coaches like this should be fired, and never have a job in the NFL again unless it's for the tacks.

If they're coaching scared, it means they're only trying to preserve their jobs.  It's no different than what we had in Del Rio or Mularkey.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

probably because it would be a media/team fiasco.

that would be like admitting you were wrong evaluating your QB position twice in one year.

Bingo.  They all need to go.

Problem is, our idiot head coach hired a mostly lackluster coaching staff.  We don't have some old offensive guru that can step in and call plays or coach.  It's just Jedd and Gus and Babich, the three stooges.

Quote:Why do people still want Poz cut!
? He's the best player on our team, and one of the most respected from other teams. Thankfully, nobody on this MB is the GM.
Because the D is faster and better without him. Thomas III is more than sufficient in my mind, and can get sideline to sideline much quicker. Its time for Poz to go, hes become expendable.

Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster
