Paul Casey or Mike Smith

Once again another dumb thread about Bortles sucks and Badley should be fired. Mike Smith? Really? Maybe as D coordinator. Why take a failed HC. Has all the weapons in the world and wins 1 playoff game since he left us. Winner...

Worse yet, remember that we hired the OC for the Falcons who was in charge when they got those 2 points in the playoffs? And when we hired him as our HC for no good reason
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

He made that team respectable in a hurry, and they were in a situation not too different than ours. 6 or 7 wins over the course of 2 seasons is unacceptable. Period.

Have you looked at that team recently? The team started moving up not because of Mike Smith. That's for sure. Hint: It was Matt Ryan and Michael Turner that turned the team around. Not to mention Roddy White having a year under his belt.

What Smith has done in Atlanta is what JDR could've done here if he had a real franchise QB. He's not a great coach.
Quote:Ok, well if it was all them, what does that say about bortles? Nothing, given that Ryan had a much better team around him. In fact Smith inherited a fairly good team that needed mostly just a QB. It was after Vick went to jail, and they went with Joey Harrington and Coach Bobby Quitterino.that they had such an awful year. Even then their point differential the year before wasn't that bad.

I like Smith alot. But I also dont believe in hiring and firing a HC so fast, even with our previous one year HC.

Quote:Uhh White got 1200 yards with Joey Harrington throwing to him. What had he done before that? 1 year is a small sample size. Quote:Full disclosure here, I'm a fan and former STH. Before that I used to buy the 3 packs. I'm not a troll. I'm just a fan that has grown tired of being in the cellar. Our owner has money. I would love to see it spent on a caliber coach like Harbough. If not Mike Smith I think a guy like Art Briles. I look at our current HC and its silly to me. He may have the room and he may be the best motivator for young talent. But you'd be lying if you weren't wondering whether he can really get these guys to win. He can't beat winnable teams now. What is he gonna do when the cupboards full? Luck into an 8-8 record? Then everyone will be satisfied because were not bottom feeders anymore. I don't want that. If Caldwell continues to draft well, with the right HC there's no reason why the Jags can't realistically go from worse to first. I think your frustration may be leading you to misplace blame disproportionately toward Bradley - and as the young team progresses you might lighten your stance. That's my most reasonable response to one of your more reasonable posts. I think it has much more to do with youth, inexperience and missing talent in certain positions than Bradley being incompetent. I think Bradley is a promising young coach that still has lots to learn and he's struggling a bit with a very, very young roster. The surge in defensive play in recent weeks gives me some added confidence in my opinion. No thanks to Smith. Quote:I certainly wouldnt call mike smith a failed HC. Quote:Uhh White got 1200 yards with Joey Harrington throwing to him. Roddy white was a 5 year vet by the time Ryan got drafted. He had 1000 yards receiving every year even when Vick was there throwing 50 yards a game sometime. Roddy was proven. They also signed Tony Gonzales Matt's rookie year That team was ready to roll when he was drafted.

TGonz didn't come over until later, they had Justin Peele and Marcus Pollard in 2008. Team still had talent though. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
Mike Smith has a stacked roster. A franchise QB, a good RB, 2 of the best WR's and a good third option too and so on...
Yet he's done no better than the Jaguars in the past 2 seasons who have had a huge roster turnover and plenty of UDFA's and rookies getting playing time. No thanks. I even think Gus Bradley could have that team at least 5 wins right now. ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! |
