Positive: Jags are currently #2 in the league for sacks, last 2 seasons have been last.

I wonder what the % of sacks we have came in the 1st Quarter...

I would be willing that the majority of our sacks came early in the game...   And we had much fewers sakcs as a whole in the 2nd half of our games...

That is proof to me our problem in the second half is getting fatigued.

Quote:Wrong. If the defense is on the field longer, the Steelers will score more points than us and we lose. Why do you think time of possession battles are so important?

Plus it is not an idea. It is an indisputable fact that the defense is on the field longer. And with an offense like ours, that is never a good thing.

I personally don't understand why nobody has come up with the obvious in that it really doesn't matter if the defense is on the field longer this year compared to previous years. We have more people that can rotate in now, so yes the defense being on the field longer does equal more sack potential when you're rotating a lot more people than last year or any year before that.

It's still a useless stat when we're giving up the most points in the league per game.

No.

We're down by a lot in the 2nd half, teams coast and run the ball/go more conservative resulting in less sack opportunities.

I'd say that's a more likely option than being tired.  These are professional athletes and they rotate in.  The fatigue thing is nothing more than a fan excuse in my opinion.

Are you saying it is just a coincidence that most of our sacks occur early in the game?

Possibly.  But unlikely...  I'm pretty sure teams have been throwing alot on us in the 2nd half as well....  Perhaps not as much as in the first, but for your hypothesis to be accurate, then the number of throw plays would have to drop by the same % as based on the number of sacks we have as a whole.

If the number of passing plays only dropps by say 10%, but the number of sacks drops by say 75%, then your hypothesis doesn't hold water.

Conditioning is something coaches should be figuring out about.  Or maybe doing a better job with substitutions?  At this point, fatigue to me is more of a coaching issue...

Our pressure is almost exclusively coming from the front 4. Without the legitimate threat from blitzes, the OL can focus on just the front 4 and eventually wear even the rotation down. The jags need someone with the ability to blitz who can disrupt the pass protections. So far our current LB corps stinks at this.

Quote:Strong safety is not bad either unless Cyprien gets hurt. Unfortunately, that already happened this season.

Wide receivers began to improve when Mike Mularkey hired Jerry Sullivan, but obviously Caldwell's good drafting helped us at that position.

The other irony is we used to have the NFL's best rushing offense and now it is one of the worst. I miss the 2011 MJD.

Niether of these things are ironic.

Send Cyprien or any of the db's into blitz.  We are not getting off the field on 3rd down and that comes from a lack of a pass rush on key downs.

Blitzing would also be a coaching thing, correct?  Just saying...

In years past, we'd get QB hits and pressures without getting sacks. Now we're getting sacks and people are complaining that we don't have enough of the former. I've never heard people complain about being toward the top of the league in sacks.

No. Blitzing is an ability. Like a good RB knows how to find the soft spot in the defensive front. It's the same for a good blitzing LB against the O-line. It's one of those things that people have a knack for it or they don't. Unfortunately, our guys don't appear to have the knack for it.

Poz has been around the league for a while. He has never been good at blitzing. The coaches aren't going to magically make him good at it.

They try calling blitzes but unfortunately our LBs just get caught up in the wash. We need a guy or two who knows how to navigate through the wash.

I'm inclined to agree. A few more Safety/Corner blitzes on obvious passing downs can't hurt as bad as the secondary has been up to this point. Right?

Maybe it will confuse the QB....instead of 1 wide open receiver, there will be 2.  He'll have to decide who is more open and then overthink it and his head will explode.  Perfect strategy lol!

Now who's gonna clean up that mess?

I get your underlying point, however, but can it really get much worse? Wink
