Unreal. Now he's going to get even more coverage...

Quote:I think he's gonna go on the PS. He did okay in the preseason but played mostly backups and a bunch of other guys that got cut this weekend.

This is my take as well.

The truth of the matter is most late 7th Round picks don't make an opening day 53 man roster.   Many are never on a 53 man roster,  even after one or more Practice Squad stays.

I didn't realise he was 24 as a rookie either. Probably not helpful to his chances

Can you imagine the pressure this kid was under to succeed?

Lol. This is so funny because it's most likely true!

Where are the people who said he's be a huge distraction and that the world would implode if he were released? Some on here said the Rams wouldn't be able to release him, that they would fear the reaction. Could they be more wrong? What happen to the "gay mafia" or whatever silliness some of you bought into?

I see TMD ans FBT and others are trying a rear guard action (pun intended) to cover their false assumptions.

The fact is that he played fairly well for where he was drafted and may make the Ram's PS, if he clears waivers.

And we heard very little about it.

Ok, next overreaction / conspiracy theory coming up ...

I think they will be satisfied at least for this year,  providing that Michael Sam is on the Rams Practice Squad or another NFL Practice Squad.   Part of the reason is the way Jeff Fisher handled the release of Sam.    He went out of his way to state that he was rooting for Sam.

The future might be a different story though if Michael Sam builds on his 2014 pre-season performances but isn't on a 53 man roster.    There are other variables that are difficult to predict,   that could determine what the reaction will be.

He went unclaimed through waivers, per Schefter. Prob be signed to the Rams PS.

Agreed.

A possible but improbable exception is another team that isn't as deep as the Rams in terms of edge rushers offers Michael Sam a P.S. contract and he decides to sign with that team instead.

He actually played pretty well in the preseason. The Rams are just stacked. Also, I haven't really heard much about this story other than he was cut and will most likely go on there practice squad, but people will still try and say people are rioting over it...

I thought he played pretty well too and I'd be pretty surprised if he doesn't go to the Rams PS.

He got 11.5 sacks in the SEC last year then nailed 3 sacks in 3 NFL preseason games. I think he can play. I think he'll find a practice squad. His biggest detractor is his size. He's a "tweener".

Interesting.....

the Rams did NOT add him to their practice squad.

Seems kinda odd given all the lip service Fisher was giving about Sam during this whole process.

Theres even 2 extra spots on the PS this year.

That is a little surprising. Can't imagine someone won't add him. He showed he can play.

If someone doesn't add him, we all know it's because teams are trying to avoid the extra media attention.

After a bit of a bumpy start, I thought Sam handled himself very well. I wish him luck, but would not be shocked if he never makes an NFL roster. It will be interesting to see if the predicted backlash from LGBT activists actually occurs.

I don't think that there will be any huge backlash, but if there is any it will be people that don't follow/understand football.

I watched his preseason work, and I'm pretty unimpressed.  He's not anything special and isn't very good.

I think he showed some motor that could be developed on a PS somewhere. Its pretty surprising he isn't atleast getting that opportunity. Maybe his bad tape stands out.

Does he even play special teams?
