Has Stephen Morris shown enough to be the PS QB?
|
I disagree w/the OP. Morris has Much More upside than Stanzi by far. As I watched Stanzi consecutively overthrow the receivers I came to understand why he's been in the league for three/four years and has Never taken an regular season snap. Yes Morris is raw but he'll benefit from the PS...
NH3...

Quote:Being that he hasn't accumulated any playing time (reg. season) means that he's eligible for the PS...That doesn't necessarily matter. You can become ineligible without ever playing a game. You can only be on a practice squad for 3 years. It used to be if you were on the practice squad for more than 2 games it counted as a year. They just raised that number to six games. I've read reports that said he was ineligible and read reports that said he was eligible. Maybe he would have accrued 3 years under the old rules but not accrued three years under the new rules.
During the radio broadcast, someone (Ballou?) said Stanzi is PS eligible.

If he can't convince coaches that he's worth bringing to camp over the likes of Ricky Stanzi, what's the point of wasting a spot on him? Because someone somewhere said that he should have been a third-round pick last year? Quote:Is there a rule that once a player makes a 53-man roster he can't be demoted to the practice squad?Stanzi has accrued three years in the NFL by virtue of his having been on the 53-man roster for the entire 2011 and 2012 seasons, and the entire 2013 season minus one game. I believe that makes him ineligible for the practice squad. Quote:I hope Morris gets cut and we sign Connor Shaw He's looked decent this preseason. I also hope Cleveland cuts Crowell too.

The accuracy thing is something he can work on. He's got a big arm and good mobility. He's also familiar with this offense. Not bad characteristics for a PS player.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
If we can find someone better to stash on the PS, then go for it.
Morris is a dime a dozen player. Stanzi is horrible. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

It isn't just being on the 53 man roster.
Stanzi is better than Morris as far as emergency QBs go. Let's hope they both get zero regular season snaps.
Only a chump boos the home team!

He is an ideal PS player. If anything happened to either Henne or Bortles, the team would add a veteran to the active roster. Just like last year when they signed Stanzi after Gabbert got injured. Until then, I would think Morris winds up sticking around on the PS. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

No, but then again neither has Stanzi, in the time he has been here, he missed wide open guys Thurs night.
I don't think it really matters which one you keep and which one you cut. Neither guy will see the field during the season. The Jags would really be in bad shape if they did, esp considering what the o-line has looked like, even with the starters in there. If it came down to it, the Jags would sign a released vet to come in and assume the backup role, meaning neither Morris or Stanzi would get promoted from the PS.
I survived the Gus Bradley Error.
Quote:That doesn't necessarily matter. You can become ineligible without ever playing a game. This is true as I've read articles that said he's eligable, but his on field performances says otherwise... NH3...

This sounds like a question that Jedd Fisch needs to personally answer since he coached Morris at MIami. Fisch brought his scheme over from Miami so Morris already understands all of its intricacies. It wouldn't surprise me to see him on the PS, but if he doesn't make it I have to think its because Fisch realizes he doesn't have what it takes. Stanzi does nothing for me.
As a reference for this thread, here's their respective Preseason stats... Stephen Morris - 15 of 24 (62.5%) for 110 yards (4.6 YPA) with 1 INT for a 55.9 QB rating, sacked once Ricky Stanzi - 13 of 24 (54.2%) for 136 yards (5.7 YPA) with 2 INTs for a 36.1 QB rating, sacked 3 times Also, according to PFT, the Jaguars do plan to add Morris to their Practice Squad... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...ice-squad/

Quote:I hope Morris gets cut and we sign Connor Shaw Yes. There will be a lot of good QB developmental prospects in today's cuts. Most will never actually develop, but they offer a chance. Morris knows the offense and would be the best option to help the team prepare for the next opponent during the week. I don't see him ever developing into a guy who I'd want on the field when the games count. It all depends. Do you want the QB on the practice squad to be a guy who someday may be a good NFL QB, or do you want a guy who can best help the team prepare during practice? "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?" |
