no one should care. Race is meaningless.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
Quote:Thats an opinion, not a fact. If you know any hard of hearing black people, ask them what they think is a bigger accomplishment. I would expect them to say deaf player in the Super Bowl. I don't think it downplays anything. People just make a big deal about black quarterbacks because there are far fewer of them than black players at other positions.
Quote:No one should care. Race is meaningless. Unfortunately that is not true yet, but we are getting closer.

While I dont know anyone personally who is deaf and African-American, my best bet would be if asked they would probably say they would be proud of both accomplishments. I would imagine the odds would be double stacked.

Quote:If you know any hard of hearing black people, ask them what they think is a bigger accomplishment. I would expect them to say deaf player in the Super Bowl. You just proved my point. Someone that is hard of hearing may think that its a bigger accomplishment for a deaf person to play in the Super Bowl while a black person may think an African American quarterback is an accomplishment. Both are opinions, not a fact. I'm not saying this is the line of thinking, but being happy a black qb wins a Super Bowl would be like a white person hoping a white running back or receiver wins it because there are so few. It's meaningless to me.

Both are opinions, not a fact. The irony is Peyton Hillis said he was picked on for being a white running back. Left unsaid here is the fact that when people talk about Doug Williams being the first black quarterback to win a Super Bowl, they don't say if any black quarterback lost it.
Quote:Unfortunately that is not true yet, but we are getting closer. Agree, we are getting closer at a snails pace.

Quote:The irony is Peyton Hillis said he was picked on for being a white running back. Has anyone ever been picked on for being a black quarterback? Rhetorical question right?

Quote:He's still black JW. Yes but not completely. That is why he is not as dark as Michelle.

Quote:Our president is multiracial. Just like Russell Wilson who in the eyes of the majority of African Americans view him as Black. Im trying to keep this disscusion on topic.

It is important to note Russell Wilson is only the second black starting quarterback to win a Super Bowl. Byron Leftwich has a ring.

Quote:Fixed. You totally missed my point. I am saying calling Russell Wilson the second black quarterback to win the Super Bowl is not true because every member of the team gets a ring, not just the starters.

I just forgot the technical part of adding "Starting" QB to the title of the thread but assumed the majority of people knew what the jist of my point was.
