My 2018 Free Agent Class
|
Mine is more of a offseason plan but I'll stack it with Free agency...
1. Resign ARob. Hurns will prolly need to take a paycut or be gone. If that's the case, draft another one. 2. Sign one of either C- R.Jensen 26, C/G- W. Richburgh 26, G- J. Pugh 27, or C/G- B. Fusco 29. Draft another guard/center in one of the first 2 rounds of the draft. 3. Resign Omameh to a team friendly deal or nothing. Has proved he'd be a very good backup and can have some quality starts. 4. Draft a TE in one of the first 2 rounds the OL isn't drafted. Only 2 TE's even worth looking at in FA are Jenkins- off the field issues, Eifert- injury issues, or possibly Burton. 5. Sign MLB A. Williamson. 6. Cut Ivory and Nortman. Several others you can try to rework. 7. Coming out of this offseason I think the Jags need to draft a QB somewhere 4th round or earlier, 2 new starting interior OL, new starting TE, new starting MLB, another nickle and RB however they come. I wouldn't be too disappointed by a draft similar to this... https://draftwire.usatoday.com/2018/02/2...draft-1-0/ We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! He replied by saying more than one of the Florida teams had contacted him (I'd guess one being us but who knows) but that he absolutely hated the Florida heat and did not want to go back there. That's a big reason why he chose Chicago. I wasn't in love with living in FL, but if it meant making millions and winning a championship I think I could live with it for a few years (02-23-2018, 09:45 AM)JNev Wrote: I wasn't in love with living in FL, but if it meant making millions and winning a championship I think I could live with it for a few years If his market winds up being softer than expected and only hot weather teams are offering him money then I am sure we would have as good a chance as anyone. However, if all things are relatively equal it sounds like he will heavily lean toward a cool climate city. That's all. This should work although it does probably mean taking a hard pass on QB Lamar Jackson. What's your plan for the nickel spot? I see you saying to draft another nickel, but is it your plan to try and replace Colvin with a late round pick? Also, what you do about the backup FS spot behind Gip with Peyton Thompson hitting FA? Resign Peyton? Sign a different FA FS? Draft one? BTW, it looks like Nortman is staying put. As for that mock draft, I'd love to see them take Mark Andrews at the end of round two, but I suspect he won't escape round one.

If there is a need to sign someone, what is the limit they can realistically afford to pay? Maybe look to see if you can swing a deal with a Justin Coleman, Nickell Robey-Coleman, or a restricted FA like Bryce Callahan? Backup FS? No idea. Not a lot under 28, with experience players, to choose from on the FA market. Was Peyton Thompson good enough to resign? He shouldn't command a lot of money comparatively, I wouldn't think. Peyton Thompson might be our best special teams player. He had a number of great tackles and downed punts. Those guys are great to have, especially if he is also a decent backup safety. We aren’t going to back up the brinks truck, but he has earned a decent contract. Who knows maybe he can develop into a starter down the road. Can he play Nickel?
I honestly think colvin is an underappreciated cog of our defense that we should do our best to keep.
I'd try to find a decent TE for a fair deal in free agency as well as a henne replacement and then I'd go heavy on OL in the draft. Probably would also take a gamble on a project QB. Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
What if we signed AR15, cut burns, let Lee walk, and sign Dez Bryant...? Depending on how much he wants.

1. Re-sign A-Rob
2. Sign Pugh 3. Re-sign Omameh(super cheap) 4. Sign a cheap veteran TE(Virgil Green, Luke Wilson, Ben Watson) 5.Corey Grant is an RFA so I would re-sign him 6. Poz would be nice to come back if he would be ok sharing snaps with Blair Brown 7. Peyton Thompson who I could not stand two years ago is now a very good ST player and good cheap depth that I would keep (02-26-2018, 07:23 PM)ColoJag Wrote: 1. Re-sign A-Rob I would be in favor of all these moves. The absence of Colvin is also common sense since he will demand too much and replacing a nickel back should not be too difficult. The cornerback/nickel class is deep enough that I believe the Jags can draft his replacement in the 3rd or 4th rounds. If the rookie isn't ready to start at the beginning of the season, Patmon has shown that he can get the job done. Based on the above free agent moves, my ideal draft class would be something like this: Rd. 1- Mason Rudolph Rd. 2- Hayden Hurst Rd. 3- Duke Dawson Rd. 4- Josey Jewell Rd. 5- Jaylen Samuels Rd. 7- Johnnie Townsend and Shaq Griffin

Dez is a headcase and had one of the highest drop rates of any WR in the league last season. He's also coming off his career worst year for a 16 game season. I wouldn't touch him at this point. He's a sinking ship with a high price tag. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! |
