I think McGough will be the backup and Minshew will be the #3 for at least the beginning of the season. I think he's not experienced enough to be the backup, but the team thinks too much of him to put him on the P.S. RB- I believe Rawls makes the team over Blue. I can't stand Blue. He's the king of the 2 yard run. DT- I have Hughes Jr. making the team over Ankou. LB- With Telvin likely going on I.R., I see us keeping Allen/Jack/Ryan/Jacobs/Q. Williams and Giles-Harris S- I have Wingard making the team over Reavis (05-10-2019, 01:36 PM)TheO-LineMatters Wrote:(05-07-2019, 03:15 PM)NYC4jags Wrote: Yeah - I'm bored. I'd agree with Meier as the 4th TE / H-Back at this point. Never been impressed with Koyack really. Meier hadn't been invited yet when I posted this thread. Regarding the 4th RB, depth DT, and the final safety spot: I think all of those spots are absolutely up for grabs by the best camp performers. Your suggestions are as good as any in my mind. Walker over Cole I'm more skeptical about - but his return skills could make it happen. (05-10-2019, 01:36 PM)TheO-LineMatters Wrote:(05-07-2019, 03:15 PM)NYC4jags Wrote: Yeah - I'm bored. I'd forgotten about Giles-Harris. He's got a great chance to not only make the team, but contribute early. He was being talked about as a day 2 pick in some places. A classic MLB, and an intelligent, hard-hitting player. Here's a pre-draft write-up on him from tdn.com: "JOE GILES-HARRIS, LB, DUKE I am not crazy about the 2019 crop of linebackers but Giles-Harris is being slept on. Among the most productive defensive playmakers in the ACC, Giles-Harris racked up 313 tackles, 32.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks across his final three seasons in Durham. Giles-Harris is arguably the best processor in the class at linebacker. He quickly and accurately diagnoses plays while taking excellent angles to the football. He is also a standout finisher who does well to square up, wrap up and bring his feet through contact. I love how he flows to the football, mirroring the running back but also not getting sucked in too far and guarding against cutback lanes. He is extremely gap-savvy. He doesn't feature elite range and athletic ability, but his mental processing and tackling skills are tremendous. He is a superb shallow zone defender that sharply reads the backfield and works into throwing lanes while taking good angles to cut off running backs slipping out of the backfield. A team in need of a MIKE linebacker should snatch him up on Day Two and prosper." We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Giles-Harris is my favorite LB from the draft. I can't believe we picked him up in UDFA. He has a huge chance to make the team.

Cunningham is a little better as a receiver, but Blue has been the Texans 3rd downs RB and has plenty of catches. He's also great with the blitz pickup, so I don't see any issues with him in that spot. Blue doesn't fumble, and he's much better actually rushing than Cunningham. Cunningham is a ST ACE!! I think that coupled with comparable receiving ability to Blue pushes him onto the roster. We'll keep 6 LB's not sure if Josh Allen will technically count as one of those 6, but i strongly suspect our depth will be 4 core ST's guys rather than linebackers in the classic sense. As far as the DL I think it breaks down as follows: RDE: Yannick, Josh Allen, Lerentee McCray DT: Taven Bryan, Dontavious Russell NT: Marcell Dareus, Abry Jones LDE: Campbell, Smoot because of Calais ability to play inside at the 3 technique, I think they go with 4 DT's and 3 who are more "Nose Tackle" Types with an emphasis on soaking up blocks and defending the run. I think Smoot makes the team but he needs a good camp, will most likely be inactive on gamedays, McCray is our ST's captain and will return in that role and offer depth as a pass rusher.
Championship Formula:
1) Draft Trevor Lawrence! 2) Play good physical Defense! 3) Keep 91% of the roster healthy! 4) ??? 5) Blank #2 6) CHAMPIONSHIP!!! Anything is possible, but I'd be fairly surprised to see Blue beat out Cunnungham as a third down guy. If Blue scrapes onto the roster, it's probably because Fournette or Armstead is banged up. There's a reason why Cunningham has 3 seasons with 26 pass targets or more (high of 52) and Blue barely reached 20 targets in one lone season. Don't be fooled by a similar catch rate. Cunningham is a better receiver and he's better after the catch.

Although they wouldn't have drafted Oliver unless they liked him, it is unrealistic to expect him to be a major contributor right away. Jeff Lageman, probably the most knowledgeable local analyst of football talent, indicated that he watched a lot of tape on Oliver and considers him a project. He was not negative about Oliver in the long-term, but Foles needs someone with experience at this postion next season. If the price is right, I really hope they pull the trigger on this. But isn't he looking for new contract, more money? We're already looking at the Yan and Ramsey situations biting our nails hoping we don't screw it up. We don't have a lot of extra money. I think we're sticking with what we have at TE and expect Oliver to contribute as our pass catcher from that spot. I was attempting to answer a question. I'm not certain what he's looking for. I think Oliver will be a real contributor as a move TE before we reach the bye-week if not right away - and I like Swaim in the in-line role. I also like that they seem to be looking for a good lead-blocking H-Back. I'm not feeling desperate at the TE spot, but it is a bit thin on paper since we are counting on youth and a couple of journeymen types to perform. Rudolph wouldn't make financial sense for the Jags unless the vikes release him - and even then some team will likely want to pay him more than the Jags can responsibly offer. |
