I pretty much agree with all, from being bored to the roster predictions.
I guess I'd expect one of the vets to make the last spots on the o-line over bunchy, but who knows. Overall, I think we've done a reasonable job of building depth, we have two players at each position and role, e.g. blocking tight end, move tight end. The main thing that concerns me, again, is that at some positions we are an injury or two away from being completely threadbare. I fear that could be the story of the season once again. Very possible. I def considered that option but went with youth/upside optimistically. (05-07-2019, 09:38 PM)NH3 Wrote:(05-07-2019, 03:15 PM)NYC4jags Wrote: Yeah - I'm bored. What JagJohn said. His depth chart position doesn't indicate how impactful his role will/should be.
As for DJ Alexander's spot, I see that as sort of an open spot on Special Teams where any of those new LBs (or McCray if he beats all four out) takes the spot.

Don't know Flip's mind on it yet. I think Cunningham is the defacto 3rd down back until someone proves batter. Blue doesn't have the hands. He's just a backup to LF and the rook as a power runner to me. Not a 3rd down guy. Different skill-set. The Stallings spot - see above posting on the matter. I have zero faith in Ogbuehi until proven otherwise. Could be a number of guys that claim that last o-line depth spot. Maybe even someone not on the roster yet. Would be surprised if it's Ogbuehi actually. The backup safeties are a toss up to me right now. I don't think Allen will be the starting SAM as his rotational role in the front four will prevent that. But I think he gets some snaps there. Cunningham is a little better as a receiver, but Blue has been the Texans 3rd downs RB and has plenty of catches. He's also great with the blitz pickup, so I don't see any issues with him in that spot. Blue doesn't fumble, and he's much better actually rushing than Cunningham. On Ogbuehi, I'm thinking all of his issues would be covered up playing inside, and he has played RT if they ever need him there in a clinch. I'm convinced after Capers and Wash get together and hash out a plan that we'll see Allen in the SAM much more than you're thinking. The only times you'll see him at DE is when we're in the nickel or dime and don't have a SAM out there.

I'm not going to try and do a 53 right now because I'm tired and lazy and that takes work. I will say at a first glance that I think Michael Walker has a wide open door to make this team as a return specialist, because using the top two WRs to handle returns is unnecessarily risky. I think Blue loses his spot. That far down the depth chart, you better have special teams value or be a highly-promising role player. He is neither, but Cunningham is a special teams ace and the coaching staff loves Williams, so unless they decide to keep five to make up for not carrying a fullback, Blue is out.
I'm pretty sure you have the Jags keeping nine on the OL, which I would agree with, but I've been drinking and counting names is hard. Ogbuehi is on a one-year, vet minimum contract, so he's vulnerable (good, he should be). I'm guessing that ninth OL spot comes down to Ogbuehi and Wester. Last year, the Jags saw what happens when you lack experienced depth on the OL. I'd expect a guy like Stallings or McDermott to make the practice squad, but I think we'll see more experience on the OL this season just in case four guys get hurt and the fifth plays so badly that you wish he were. Koyack is totally replaceable in every way. Even O'Shaughnessey isn't bulletproof. He's got $400K guaranteed ($100K signing bonus, $300K of salary) so someone would have to really blow him away to steal that spot. Koyack might make it, might not, Jimmy O'Longname most likely will. You have too many of the same names in different places on the DL. That [BLEEP] was hard enough with the offensive line. I'm not doing it again. For the purposes of this post, let's just assume that I agree with you completely on the defensive line. I don't think the Jags are keeping seven linebackers. I'm pretty sure you have seven. I think Smith, Jack, Ryan, Allen and Williams are locked in. That leaves the other umpteen trillion linebackers on the roster to compete for the last spot. Wait, no, there is disagreement on the DL. I don't see how Smoot makes this team again. I just don't see it. I think the team would sooner give his spot to McCray, the kid we drafted in round seven or a UDFA. Or even a seventh linebacker, jeez, Smoot has had his chances to get on the field and do something. Anything. He hasn't. It's time to move on. I'll make an incredibly bold prediction: Zedrick Woods will pull a Marlon McCree and start at free safety. He flies, he can hit, but he can also drop back into a deep zone and let the play come to him. There's not really anyone impressive ahead of him on the depth chart at that position, and he's got a pretty clean shot at a starting job if he steps up and takes it. Also, Dawaune Smoot sucks. The 3rd down role will be interesting to watch. I hoped it would be manned by someone more dynamic than either of these guys, but I'd put my money on Cunningham over Blue twice on Sunday. Nothing unreasonable here. ^ I don't share your disdain (entirely) for Smoot, but your points are considerations that are not lost on me. One explanation: The 7 LB thing is about special teams. That's a DeCamillis hallmark.

I like your list. Boy are we thin at WR and FS. I am a little surprised we haven't brought anyone in at FS, does Wilson even have the range a Wash FS requires? I think FS is the most glaring weakness going into the 2019 season.

As it stands, I feel like Harrison is one of the Safeties... preferably SS, but he could probably play FS as well. I'm confident that Jarrod Wilson and Cody Davis make the roster, but I'm not as sure either will start. I don't see CJ Reavis making the roster. I'm thinking either the blazing Zimitri Woods or the tackling machine Andrew Wingard makes the roster and possibly starts opposite Harrison with the other one competing with Reavis for a PS spot. If the rookie is better off at SS, I don't think Harrison would struggle at FS all that much. Besides, in Wash's system the FS and SS are more interchangeable than in most other defensive schemes.

Blue is a much better rusher so he's not thrown to as often, however, his career catch percentage of 80.2 is even higher than Cunningham's 77.6. Also, responding to another post suggesting that Blue is not a factor on Special Teams, that's not true. He's not a return guy, but Blue was a key participant in all of Houston's ST units.
