Are you officially saying that this thread is not official?

My Hurricane Floyd memory is of riding the USS John F. Kennedy through waves so large that our bow was coming out of the water and waves washed over the flight deck. I had no idea an aircraft carrier could move so much. We had hoped to avoid the storm but had to steam into it to rescue 7 sailors in the water because their ocean tug sank. They launched a helicopter in that stuff. Major cojones.

Now I'm just scared and want someone to hold me (*smack* not you, her). There, all better now. Just a little more to the right...

I remember being at Quarters on the Hanger Deck on the Enterprise. Saw a wave hit the bottom of the Elevator. Which was in the All The Way Up Position. That was quite an underway.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

I need to scan in a photo of the USS America in 1995 when we were making our way across the pond.  We had hurricanes Humberto, Iris, Karen and Luis out there.  The only time I've seen that many sailors puke on a carrier was when we went through the Shell Back ceremony.

I thought you had to get rolls to 425 degrees before you could eat them.

So... let me see if I have this straight.  Your official stance is that unofficially you say that this thread is not officially official?  Why couldn't you say that to begin with?

Damn. Never thought of how far down the water gets churned up.

How far would you estimate that you'd have to be under in order not to feel it?

This one, I'm taking a little more seriously after so many false alarms and storms that were no worse than a bad thunderstorm.

No evac but extra everything else.

I'm not a submarine guy, but I would guess that the currents and disturbances go down quite deep.

Regarding the part in bold, I'm actually doing the same thing.  We have provisions in the house, plenty of food, generators ready to go, etc.  I'll also do what I didn't do for the last storm.  Put my patio furniture and trash cans inside, and depending on what is projected I may flood my boat.

The bottom line is, anyone not watching this one and/or taking it seriously is probably making a bad mistake.
