Quinton Coples cut by the jets

Quote:Seems to be an average player. Hasn't really performed to expectations since being drafted. Are we thinking of replacing Skuta or just adding depth?

He'd take Branch/Clemons spot.

Oh so position change. I think he was drafted as a DT and was changed once he got into the pros. I mean the guy got 10 sacks his last year at UNC so he must be able to push the line. I wouldn't mind seeing Clemons go.

At the very least he gives is depth on the d line at the 3 technique apot

Him backing up Odrick could be a good fit.

He was an End at UNC in the 4/3, so he already can play with his hand on the ground. I think the Jets thought he could be Peter Boulware.

I think so too.

The knock on him seems to be effort. In a platoon role you might be able to get more out of him.

Seems like the price would be right if they think he brings anything to the table.

I'd take a flyer on him.

at that price tag i don't see him being claimed off waivers seems like he will pass through untouched and then sign after

2016 draft players I think will be good
  • On the Fournette train, will be best back of his class 3/6/17
  • Lattimore please,  Lockdowns on both sides would be nice

Quote:I think Coples would be worth the gamble because he was miscast in the New York as a 3-4 OLB. Put him in the rotation behind Odrick at the strong side DE and I think he could be effective. That said, we're down a bit in the claim order and I bet some worse teams put in a claim.
We're 9th on the waiver wire list, so not that far down. Maybe we'll get lucky/

With Marks placed on IR, and Alualu shifting to a heavier load inside at DT, there is room for Coples behind Odrick.  If Coples is picked up on waivers, the team would only be responsible on picking up the remainder of his $1.5m base salary.  He was due to become a free agent after this season, as he's in year 4 of a 4 year deal.  Give him a change of scenery and a better position fit, and give him a Jag job.  No harm regardless....only upside potential.

If he clears waivers it doesn't hurt to kick the tires on a talented guy like Coples.

Ah, I quickly looked at NFL.com's league wide standings that had us at 14th, but looking at it again they just list teams with the same record alphabetically instead of by tie-breaking scenarios.

Unless 3-4 teams want to gamble on him being an OLB again, it looks like Dallas, Detroit, and Miami are the only 4-3 teams ahead of us.

Quote:Former Clemson defensive end Da'Quan Bowers had a tryout with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday according to multiple reports.

<p style="color:rgb(51,51,51);font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Defensive lineman Tim Jamison and Ishmaa'ily Kitchen also participated in the workout for the Jaguars. The team is looking for defensive line depth after a season-ending injury to Sen'Derrick Marks.

^ The measurables between Bowers and Coples are very similar too.

10 1/4" hand size

Coples:

6'6" tall

290 lbs

33 1/4" arm length

10 1/4" hand size

actually the jets picked up his 5th year option so we would be on the hook for that.  Something like 7 million which will probably mean no one claims him off waivers.

It's guaranteed for injury only. Whoever claims him won't be on the hook for any of that, unless he gets injured, if they choose to cut him before the 2016 league year starts. I'm pretty confident he gets picked up by some 4-3 team off of waivers and I hope it's us.
