Article in New Jersey Paper about Coughlin and Pierre Paul

Quote:I think JPP is a decent DE, but I wouldn't throw the bank at him. He's been over 10 sacks twice in 7 years.

Like someone else posted, sacks are not everything. When JPP came back from hand surgery in 2015 he was good at putting pressure on the QB but the huge cast prevented him from making a tackle. That was why he switched to wearing a glove last year. Then he suffered a couple injuries in 2016 that kept him out of multiple games. I would not throw the bank at him either, but you have to look at the facts behind the numbers.

Rookies take too long to develop. Especially if we are in win now stage.

No kidding.

Even in the first 3 seasons where he didn't miss a game, he still only produced 1 season above 10 sacks.

Then he missed 17 games in his last 4 seasons (1 healthy season).

That glove wont make him a consistent 10-sack DE. He's tried it since losing his fingers, and he's switched a few times. He's probably looking for a $10 million per year contract. I'm not sure he's worth a lot of guaranteed money.

And did you add his pressures and hurries into that equasion?

While sacks are nice. They are not the complete determination in a DE.

Switched to playing left-handed? He did initially, then decided to put his right hand down again.

In JPP's case the number of games played is outright misleading. He missed half a season because of injuries that had nothing to do with football.

JPP is 15th in hurries at 24, 4 more than Fowler.

I don't know where he ranks with hits, but he had 5 for the season.

He had 5.5 of his 7 against the Bears and Browns. It doesn't excite me that he made almost all of his sacks in 2 games and then missed 4 games.

I'd be OK with JPP coming here. I just don't see him as a reliable pass-rush. I think he'll be quasi-productive; I don't think he'll ever live up to whatever contract we'd give him.

Quote:I would LOVE Ingram.

If he hits the market, he will probably cost the most of any FA.
I loved Ingram coming out of the draft, and but people around hear called him a bust, now after a few years of development he put together 2 very good years people like him, some times it takes time for players.

Also I would love JPP if he hits FA, I dont see how we dont land him with all his ties to us

The franchise tag would keep him out of Jacksonville, of course. Nobody will be surprised if the Giants do it.

No thanks, I don't care that we have 75 million in cap space. I'd rather watch us struggle at getting to the QB... Again.

Jacksonville is a small market, he may not like the transition from NY.

We should have drafted him back in 2010 instead of Trashu Alu

That's a great question.

Right now it appears Fowler and Ingram would play the same position. Not sure but you can never have too many pass rushers.

To be fair, since everyone wants to point out how Albert never has played a full 16 games, well, Piere Paul has just as bad of a track record injury wise than Albert. Piere Paul is a good player and I would love to have him here. But lets not criticize Albert for his injury record than overlook Piere Paul. Piere Paul has just one season where he played a full 16 games.

With that being said, Piere Paul would be a great fit here and I want the Jags to pursue a DE, which we desperately need. I just want to back Albert and show that its not that uncommon to miss games in a season. The NFL is a violent sport, injuries happen. We traded for a better LT and only gave up a future 7th, sure, hes got some injury concerns, but Piere Paul, who everyone wants has some injury concerns as well.

Quite the opposite.

He's from Florida and has always had a home here.
