OC Candidates

Quote:What becomes obvious to me watching both the Ravens and the Patriots is that NO-NAME RBs can be effective in any system just as long as everyone in the stadium is not 100% sure that the next play is a running play. Of course it helps to have the Oline working together.

Neither the Ravens nor the Patriots have studs along the OLine, so it is not strictly talent, rather coaching and performance as a team versus an individual.

There is no reason why the Jags can not have a reasonable ground game next season.

I suspect they will uncover some unknown talent either drafted in the later rounds or picked up in Free Agency.

The Patriots couldn't run the ball.

To be fair the Pats were playing some catch up most of the game and the Ravens rush defense is really good.

Forsett rushed for 127... You can find RBs anywhere.

A tired meme. Lynch, McCoy, Charles, Hill, Lacy, Murray, Miller, Bell all picked in first three rounds.

How about we just find one period.

I feel we have one. Now we just need a much better play caller and better blocking.

Are we going to end up with Trestman by default?

I'd be OK with that.  I just don't want a 2nd tier / unproven OC.

The next OC the Jags hire will be the next head coach down the road.... :geek:

Shouldn't we be looking at which offensive coach on the Seahawks' staff Gus wants?  Maybe Gus knows his candidate will be available because it's the assistant TE coach from Seattle.

Hopefully our next OC doesn't call wr screens back to back

Anybody interviewing for the OC job has to be a little fearful that he could be a part of a lame duck coaching staff and this will hurt the Jags' search. It's put up or shut up time for Gus and his staff. If you're an OC candidate, you're looking for a safe place for the next 2-3 years and I'm not sure Jacksonville is the spot for that type of thinking.

Kyle Shanahan would be in play for Kubiak's Coordinator position as well.

No job is safe in the NFL. Its not unprecedented to get fired after your first year. Especially if you're walking into a dumpster fire at the QB position.

Remember the local tools around here with "players not plays" motto.  I guess some have finally learned a good coach is very valuable.

Nobody here thinks coaching isn't valuable but players trump coaches in terms of importance 100 times out of 100. NFL coaches will tell you that and if you don't believe that, I can't help you and your ignorance. Do you think JJ Watt's good because of his coaching? Talent trumps coaches every time.

Running backs who's teams are QB'd by Russell Wilson(3rd), Nick Foles/Mark Sanchez(3rd/1st), Alex Smith(1st), Andy Dalton(2nd), Aaron Rodgers (1st), Tony Romo (undrafted), Ryan Tannehill(1st), and Big Ben(1st)......meanwhile Arian Foster(undrafted), Justin Forsett(7th round) go late and still put up big numbers.  Terrell Davis went in 6th rd and Priest Holmes went undrafted, combined the two won 3 super bowl rings.  You find players where you find players.  Sometimes its a scheme thing, sometimes, it clicks late...sometimes the scouts just miss.
