OC Candidates

I was being sarcastic. I think I'm smart enough to know that the applicant doesn't ask the direct boss during an interview "if you get fired, do I get promoted to your job."
I think a bigger challenge is whether Trestman would lose any guaranteed $$ by taking the OC job. He still had time left on his $4.5m contract with the Bears. It may not benefit him to even take a job this year if the Bears are on the hook for his salary if he remains unemployed. We show less advertisements to registered users. With Kubiak staying with the Ravens, I fully expect that the Jags will interview Dennison sometime this week.
I still think he is the guy the Jags have been targeting.
Quote:Just had a sobering thought. Big risk, big reward. Come in here, turn this thing around, and you'll be on everyone's short list for HC jobs... Lots of young players to work with... Lots of cap room...
Team passes on Greg Roman - Flordia Times-Union Source stated...
________________________________________ Turns out he will coach with Rex Ryan in Buffalo.... Kirby Wilson or Marc Trestman in the running...

Typically, any salary he makes would come off the amount the Bears have to pay him. It wouldn't be the money for him, but the opportunity to keep his resume current. This would point to his looking for the job with the best potential for making him look good, rather than the highest salary. I guess it depends on what Trestman thinks of Bortles future and the Jags roster compared to other potential jobs. Quote:With Kubiak staying with the Ravens, I fully expect that the Jags will interview Dennison sometime this week.I'm starting to think so too. No word yet but I feel like he will definitely get an interview this week. I heard that the Broncos might fire Fox and hire Gase as the HC so I doubt we get Gase. No one from the Packers, maybe Bevell from Seattle. Maybe Linehan or Dennison.
Bill Callahan is currently an assistant on the Cowboys coaching staff with an account expiring contract. His resume speaks for itself. Could he be an option?

Could Bill Callahan be one of the guys the team wants?

Kirby Wilson

I would say he has a better chance at being good as an NFL OC than a college coach would have be at starting in the NFL as an OC?
Personally, I want an OC with play calling experience. There's a fine line with regard to preparing for a game and those immediate decisions every OC has to deal with in getting a play called in 10 seconds following the end of the prior play.
That said, Kirby "may" be able to do that but I'm so tired of getting dudes that learn on the job here in Jacksonville. Quote:Could Bill Callahan be one of the guys the team wants?I'm sure the Jags have at least looked at him as a possibility, although I don't think he'd be their first choice from the Cowboys staff. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Quote:as long as you execute whatever style you want, you can be successful. True. We've just been doing it since the early 2000's and we don't have much to show for it. I'm hoping for a different approach this time around.

Quote:Very real possibility. I feel like that would be the time for Shad to step in and flex his $$ muscle. If Gus has his eye on someone and really wants him Shad needs to make him an offer he can't refuse and hopefully that's the deciding factor. Agree. You want to be the best then you pay the best when it comes to OCs and DCs. The best coaches surround themselves with good coordinators in the area they are weak at. A good offensive HC will find a top tier DC and a good defensive coach like Bradley needs a top tier OC. JDR was a shining example of that. Coached the D just fine but the offense floundered and he didnt find a quality OC once Smith left for atlanta. |
