Greg Cosell's take on Kevin White (I personally think he's in play for the Jaguars)

#41

Quote:What short term production?  Stephen Hill never had more than 29 catches in a season.  Kevin White had more than double Stephen Hill's 3 year college career receptions in just the last season alone.

Neither were "featured" until their final season.

The knock on Hill was that he wowed with size/speed, but couldn't be figured out because of how he was used, etc.

I personally feel the same about White, given he transferred and had one breakout year his senior year.

Could be nothing.  Could be something.  We won't know, until we know.

IMO, Cooper is a much safer pick who contributed the moment he arrived.  He sat for no one.

No one is beyond criticism, so lets not overreact when the players we like find some criticism.  It's healthy.

Pirk, forget the size/speed comparisons and situations each player was in and simply watch the tape/highlights of all three players. It's becomes abundantly evident (quickly) that White is a superior prospect in every shape/form/fashion than DHB and Stephen Hill

Quote:Some folks feel DeVante Parker could be as good, if not better.

At the same time, there were high hopes by many for size/speed WRs like Darrius Heyward Bey and Stephen Hill, too.

People rarely "comp" to the guys who don't work out. It's always the TO's, etc...

How dare you speak ill of Stephen Hill!! He's the GOAT, just ask TMD
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

I agree. I wouldn't be mad...maybe I'd even love if we took Kevin White with the 3rd pick. He's the player I want along with Beasley. It's jumped up 1a and 1b as I've thought about it today. I'd love to have White opposite Robinson with Lee in the slot and Hurns as a reliable 4th receiver. then get Ajayi in the second round. Bortles will have all the help he needs.

Id take Cooper, give me Marvin Harrison over Julio Jones any day of the week. I like them both but I like Cooper better

It is interesting that the team wanted Randall Cobb so bad at the start of free agency. Shows me that they thought they could use the upgrade of an impact receiver. Honestly, I would be ok with White or Cooper as our number 3, but I like and prefer the physicality that White brings to the table. Not to mention, his competiveness is a little infectious. And the dreads...we need to get back to more guys with dreads Banana

The reason they wanted Cobb was that they want a veteran presence in the WR group, which they said was a mistake not having one last year to help speed the maturation process with the youth.  "Race to maturity."

That, in addition to wanting a slot guy.  Couple those two needs and that's why we went after him.

Should we go for Cooper, White, or Devante Parker then it will be because they believe he can be the #1 WR we've been missing since Jimmy Smith.

IMO, fans have thrown in the towel on finding that #1.  They seem happy with what we have, which doesn't include a #1 WR.  It seems the Garrard Effect has set in at WR.  If we don't find that #1, things will only get worse regardless of how the rest of the position pans out.

I think there's more to that.  Cobb is only like 25 so it's not like bringing him in over Cecil Shorts would give you some better veteran presence in the WR group.

I think they want a slot guy and/or an impact receiver, and Cobb was the best of the bunch.  We had the money, so we gave it a shot.

We also have to remember that 3 of our receivers are entering their 2nd year - they combined have tons of more experience than they did this time last year.  In fact, many players on our offense are the same.  I didn't think going after Cobb had much to do with them wanting more experience at WR, it was just a good opportunity to get better at a very critical position.

Let's hope we actually DO improve the position, because I'm not sold on the Robinson/Lee/Hurns combination.

Drafting Cooper at 3 would be fine by me, I don't see him failing, barring injury.  He's kind of like Sammy Watkins last year in a way - has everything you want in a receiver and no red flags.
