So today has been an interesting day.

 

Byron Cowart apparently eliminates FSU and is down to Auburn and UF, supposedly due to the fact that Sal Sunseri left FSU to join the Oakland Raiders. Jimbo turns around and hires former UF DE coach Brad Lawing tonight, who was Cowart's main recruiter at UF.

 

Gonna be an interesting week and a half.

Lawing also apparently has a relationship with CeCe Jefferson. Probably won't land either, but Lawing is a great hire regardless if he can get an extra DE in the class.

I really thought Payton was going to commit back to UF. Commits to UCF. Nice pick up for O'Leary and crew. Although I'd a preferred him committingback to the Gatas, I am glad he chose to stay in state rather then across the country at USC. I would rather in state guys go to in state schools.

 

(Still can not believe Florida doesn't have one JuCo program, nuts)

A bit surprised but for a kid from Florida, there are worse places to go than UCF. They have been putting players into the NFL at an impressive clip for a program of that size. And it's only two hours from his hometown. Another bonus is he should be able to get playing time right away.

A guy that I know that is close to a UF recruit said Cowart leaving UF early was a planned thing.  Something about his moms work schedule.

 

Will be very interesting to see where he chooses now.

I think he was able to pull a few kids up there for visits.  

 

I don't understand how kids are choosing schools based on coaches.  Too often those coaches aren't there by the time they even come close to graduating.  Those coaches make lots of promises that for many of those kids will never come true.

Right, and the kids that Urban recruited that were freshman were screwed in the end because he was gone.  They don't have an out if the school doesn't want to let them out of their scholarships.  Or the kids that Muschamp recruited to Florida who are now looking at Auburn.  He could just as easily leave Auburn next year.

 

Edit:  What if Jimbo wants to go to the NFL next year?  That relationship is gone.
