New Coach...hmmm New Qb?

Well someone who can compete will be here.  And if ya say otherwise that is a cool story.

Quote:Coughlin drafted David Garrard in the 4th round. I would say Watson has a little David Garrard in him. I think he is closer to Quincy Carter though.

.

People always compare black QBs to other black QBs.  Can we not come up with any white comparisons?   And by the way, I don't see any comparison between Garrard and Watson except for the skin color.

If you look at the career stats for Eli Manning, year by year, they are very underwhelming.

So, Coughlin may be very willing to roll with Bortles for a while.

Eli throws a lot of interceptions, always has, but it seems that he is never taken to task over it.

Watson reminds me a lot more of RG3 than anyone else. They have very similar builds and lot of the same question marks. Neither came from a pro-style offense, questions about injuries and accuracy, ect. I would offer you up a white qb that is kind of similar but I can't actually think of one recently.

What would it take to get Garropolo?

Calling Deshawn Watson a future bust since 3/19/17. If I eat crow, I will keep this in here and proclaim JackCity a genius.

It is pretty funny that both comparisons were to other black QB's. Lol, Quincy Carter? That's the most random comparison ever if you want to argue against the automatic black QB comparison theory and in favour of a coincidence.

Thank you.

Quote:I just don't see a TC type QB in this draft at all. I do think he may be intrigued by a couple of late round prospects though. One guy I'm keeping my eye on is Alek Torgersen of Penn. He's gonna play in the East/West Shrine game. He reminds me a little of Mark Brunell.

Doesnt Marrone have say in a qb as well?? If he sees someone's he like, its a good chance he comes in..

Yes. He does have a say.

They made it clear that all three (TC,DM, DC) will have a collaborative effort on personnel decisions,  and Caldwell made it very clear after firing Gus that the new HC would have input on his starting QB.

The coach never gets much of a say. Draft picks are are mainly made by the front office and it has been said that Tom will have the final say. We all know what a control freak he is.

This dynamic is  actually quite different from team to team and they made the point yesterday quite clearly that  Marrone has a voice in these discussions.

I wouldn't assume he has "not much of a say."

I came away with the feeling that Marrone would be more involved than Gus was in this regard.  Plus - having three voices (DC,TC,DM)  makes the most sense organizationally because you have a tie-breaker sitting at the table and it prevents roadblocks due to disagreement.

Cutting Henne makes perfect sense, what is is a back up that is so bad , he can't back up?

I bet Marrone & co look hard at the draft, gives Allen more reps so we have a competition at QB.

FA, depends on who comes available.

Oh and marrone isn't going to stand by and live or die with bbint.....he better get his butt to california and get himself fixed.

I'm not sure if you guys remember but when EJ Manuel was drafted he had a solid first 4 games.  There was an article about Marrone changing the playcalling to things that Manuel didn't so well (and remember that EJ was sort of forced on Marrone).  EJ Manuel wasn't good anyway but it's something to keep in mind with Bortles.  Initial reports that Coughlin wasn't a fan of Bortles...might have been hearsay but who knows.  I think regardless that Coughlin and Marrone are going to be on the same page with Caldwell being on the outside looking in.

I know how Tom Coughlin is. His voice will be much louder than anyone at the table.

Very different style to RG3 though if you watch them. Watson is like a mixture between Andy Dalton and Tyrod Taylor.

So the guy actually coaching the team on the field will have less to say about what competition level for Bortles is brought to camp than Coughlin?

I doubt that very strongly.

Coughlin may help narrow it down or decide between the final options - but Marrone has definitely already informed Caldwell his preference for addresssing the situation - whether it be an early pick, a later pick, an FA signing or an attempt at trade.

He'll have influence on this situation despite how much you think you know Coughlin.

Would you agree to coach the Jags with Bortles as your only option and no input on the matter of a plan B?

I wouldn't.

I don't think Marrone would either.
