Waiver Claims

Quote:Agree with the posts about run blocking and to add, he was running the ball behind the second and third options. That certainly doesn't help. I remember most of us who were around in Fred Taylor's rookie pre-season were thinking he might be a bust. Because he showed absolutely nothing. We show less advertisements to registered users. Didn't the Jags put language in the Mack deal where he can opt out in a year? Not saying he will but it'd be interesting to see if he really did want to be here as bad as it was rumored. Wonder if we could see him on the team a few years done the road (assuming we don't find a center before then).

I'm guessing you meant to say Fred Taylor's rookie PRE-season, up there, right? Quote:Didn't the Jags put language in the Mack deal where he can opt out in a year? Quote:Well, I liked the Mack attempt, but someone on our side failed in their responsibility since our offer was matched by Cleveland in a nanosecond. We must have been way too conservative in what we offered Mack. Or Cleveland was way too generous with what they were willing to match. As I recall, our offer was to make him the highest paid center in league history, by a huge margin. Yes, it is a shame, but Cleveland backed themselves into a corner with all their talk about how they would match anything. We offered the moon, and they matched it. AND: If they had not matched, people would all be whining about how we overpaid.
So basically the Browns can release him in 2 years, but what does that get them? They pay an exorbitant amount to a Center (highest paid player at his position) for years when they won't be competitive (they still don't have a QB). By time they possibly draft or develop a QB the anchor of their line is out the door and Thomas isn't getting any younger either. The fact Caldwell took a shot and "kicked the tires" so to speak shows he's serious about building a sustained winner. Of course, he could've floated a 15million annual salary and began the slow decent to hell again....

I wouldn't say we offered "the moon". We offered Mack a deal that just about put him in (atop) the highest paid Center category. (pretty much right at market value) Given that he is one of the top Centers in the league and that I've seen much worse players (giver their perceived rank at their position) get top money (at their position) in previous years. Look at the money Andy Dalton got. That has to rank him as one of the highest paid QB in the league, yet he's nowhere near that as far as real-time QB rankings go. I would have rather taken some of that money that we paid to a guy whose not worth his contract (Beadles) and given it to Mack.
Also, I am guessing we'll start to hear some confirmations on any waiver claims after 4pm today, correct?

Instead of just making him the highest paid center in the history of the league, we should have offered him way over his value too. That's TMD logic. Same thing with teddy. Well he's only truly worth the 32nd pick but if we got him with pick 3 it still would have been OK.

The Browns were basically capable of matching any offer.

The optimist in me thinks that language was a plan B of sorts. I really think Mack wanted to be here and saw the direction this team was heading. Assuming in two years that Mack is fed up with Cleveland and we still don't have a center then we could still have Mack as a plan B... Or maybe I read too much into it.
Quote:Yeah good point. Instead of just making him the highest paid center in the history of the league, we should have offered him way over his value too. Well we had no problem paying over value for Beadles... At least with Mack, doing so would have landed you a legitimate top Center in football. Beadles is nothing more than just another good (allegedly) Guard.
The Browns also have 18 MILLION tied up at the positions on the line right now, along with a Pro Bowl TE and CB that are going to want to be paid in the next year or two. The Jags went all in, the Browns called. It happens. We will see who wins long term over the next two to three years.

Yes, but the difference between this and poker was, we got to pull all our chips back into our own pile! We lost nothing in the effort. And now by some estimates I've seen we could have as much as $60 million in cap room next offseason!
Quote:The Jags interior line have been poor run blockers for years and never seems to improve. Nor do we ever address the issue in the draft, which is weird for a "run first" team, and "build through the draft". as all prior coaches and GM's have emphasized was their philosophy. As others mentioned, they literaly just drafted a guard and center who are both starting if I'm not mistaking. I like how they are handling the situation. These aren't primier positions. By drafting more interior linemen, you are just weakening another area which typically requires higher picks to fill. Hopefully at some point our roster is at a point where we can draft a center in the 1st round, but that wasn't the case for the past few years.
Doug Legursky- veteran 28 YO center cut yesterday. Any good?
Guy Whimper got cut too. No good. Ryan Succop, the placekicker with the improbable name who was Mr. Irrelevant a few years ago got cut in favor of a St. Joseph's Flash from St. Augustine.
Season Ticket holder since 2004.

Having the cap space means little when you overspend on mistakes like Zane Beadles. Spending it on guys like Alex Mack who are legit, yes...thats smart. But we don't know yet if there will be any of that caliber player in next years FA class. Hopefully there will be. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Quote:TMD's sights have been locked on Zane Beadles. Well, once (if) he actually starts playing well, then they won't be. Quote:TMD's sights have been locked on Zane Beadles. Add him to the list.
