Alex Boone on the Trade Block

Remember that time that Coughlin traded a fourth-round pick for Brendan Stai, who was supposedly one of the better guards in the AFC? How'd that work out for us?

Interior linemen are not worth a fourth-round pick.

Quote:It all depends on what the 9ers really want. Plus if he can play Center, or if we can flip some players around and make it work that would be awesome. He is a Pro Bowler after all Wink

Quote:You would pass on a young probowler because we drafted a 3rd rounder who hasn't even proved he can start in this league yet?
When did he make the Pro Bowl?

My mistake.  Pro Bowl alternate.

Rolando McClain - 6th

Stevie Johnson - 4th

Terrelle Pryor - 7th

Mike Williams - 6th

Jeremy Zuttah - Undisclosed

Matt Schaub - 6th

Darren Sproles - 5th

Jonathan Martin - 7th

Blaine Gabbert - 6th

It's not frequent, but it happens more often than people think.

A 4th rounder is more than fair for a pro bowl right guard.

To be fair, almost all those guys are terrible. Stevie Johnson got a 4th so that's reasonable. Sproles was a head scratcher for me. I guess they couldn't afford him. But the rest...
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Those examples do not help your cause.

It shows that players being traded isn't an uncommon occurrence. A 4th round pick is about as much as a team can get for a right guard, all pro, hall of fame, or not.

Maybe start Linder at center.
