NFL to change its Marijuana Policy, reduce suspensions, fines.

It's still illegal under federal law.  That's their cover.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Yes for now. Will be interesting to see what happens when that changes.

It's certainly their cover, if they want it to be.  It being legal in those states could just as easily be their cover to remove it from the list for everyone.

Personally, I'd rather they just do the latter.

Quote:I would love to see your performance enhancing list on weed.  I'm sure I could make a better case for caffeine.

It isn't about smoking just before or during a game. It increases performance during recovery or conditioning phase.

Have you ever believed that weed serves a legitimate medicinal purpose in the recovery of injuries in regards to pain management and decreasing inflammation? If so, then there's certainly a degree of performance enhancing qualities. It appears that you're getting caught up in the "Example A is less beneficial than Example B, so Example A should be permitted" scenario.

HGH, Clenbuterol, Test E, Trenbolone, and other steroids get a knock on them because they're steroids, but they can't help the body in the same way that weed helps the body. While its much more apparent how much steroids help an athlete, the amount of "help" marijuana gives athletes is still present.

I'm just getting caught up in the ridiculousness of the argument. Should we make meat illegal for athletes? I mean it has protein in it and enhances performance. Water also helps with recovery. So do bananas. There are many things that help with pain management and inflammation that are natural. You realize almost everything helps athletes one way or another. Maybe we should ban working out? That bench press, squats, press, sprints, etc... helps to enhance their performance on the field.

Aspirin and ibuprofen both help with inflammation and pain. Definitely need to ban those. Ginger has been proven to reduce inflammation to. Another thing we need to ban. Anybody know of any other all natural ingredients we should add to ban list?

There is an obvious difference between marijuana and all of those things. If you don't know the difference, then there is no point continuing the debate. However, I believe you know the difference, and you're being willfully oblivious to it to further your argument. After all, ibuprofen is the same as marijuana.

Of course there is a difference. But you said I was getting caught up with example A being more beneficial then B, so only A should be banned. If I used your argument then ibuprofen and aspirin should be illegal because they reduce inflammation and pain. This was your argument. Doesn't matter the degree correct? Or is that not what you said?

Thats different because they give players a competitive edge.  Although I am on the fence to the fact if they should be banned or not just because I feel like most players are still most likely using them anyway.

The same can be said for many, many, many drugs, stimulants, performance enhancers, and doctor prescribed drugs that are sold in GNC, Walgreens, Wal-Mart, etc. If the league deems it illegal to take, then don't take it or check with the league before doing so. There are many legal things that are banned by the NFL, NCAA etc.

Quote:Exactly. It's got absolutely nothing to do with morality.  It's about the legality.

Yeah your right, thats why they suspend players who get speeding tickets right?  Its the NFL trying to portray an image that their players aren't "street thugs".  Now that the public opinion is changing on marijuana use, so is the leagues stance.

I've never said that we should ban all things that are, technically, performance enhancers (the protein example you used). I'm arguing that marijuana affects the human body enough to provide a significant aid.

When you drink a protein shake, are you affected immediately by its consumption? No. I think there's a serious aid to recovery and conditioning, so I don't think there's a place for it in the NFL. The purpose of these banned substances is to A.) protect the athlete's health, B.) prevent unfair advantage, or C.) maintain the spirit of the sport. If it isn't helping the athlete, then it's hurting the athlete. Either way, the NFL has a valid reason to keep it banned.

I'd love to see this serious aid to recovery that you are talking about with weed. I mean you keep saying it, but haven't backed it up with anything.

If they were trying to protect athletes health then why do they allow alcohol? That's one of the worst drugs you can consume.

I've read the opinion of many different athletes. All you have to do is Google it. I'll find it later, when I'm not working. I'm sure you'll wait since I don't suspect you'll actually want to prove yourself wrong.

Is this argument about alcohol now?

Those 3 things are the NFL's stance on the subject. Not mine.

Oh, Please. You guys are so adamant about getting weed permitted that you ignore the purpose of the rules.

It's either more beneficial or more harmful. It can't be both.

I responded to what you said. If it is banned because of healthy related reasons then alcohol should be banned 10 times over.

I did Google it. I got about the same "scientific" information on it as you get with all natural cures. Ginger has more data backing it up then weed does.

Also, if you search online there are tons of people who think they drive better high then sober. Maybe we should look into changing driving laws too while we are at it,
