NFL to change its Marijuana Policy, reduce suspensions, fines.

Story here.

Is this the first step to the league allowing use of (medicinal) marijuana on all levels?

No political talk please.

The question you posed in and of itself is all political. No way around that.

good for the league

It can be done, just focus on the medical aspect, not social, and also why the league is making this decision.

The league is likely making the decision because they feel it's politically viable now.

The owners know that a significant percentage of the guys on the field are drug users just like a significant portion of the population at large are.

The owners always want their best players out on the field rather than being suspended for being unable to control their behavior to a greater degree than the average schmo on the street.

Interesting story. Will the league retroactively give players currently serving suspensions a chance to appeal?

For this topic to remain, keep discussion to the NFL policy and not society as a whole.

Good luck.

Anyway, I'm not sure why you have "medicinal" in parentheses, the NFLPA's desire to study the effects of medical marijuana is really a side subject of the article. This is instead a recognition by the NFL that marijuana use is not as harmful as the other substances that get players in trouble. It also seems like they recognize the inevitability of use by many players. They are changing the threshold, meaning how much THC must be detected to "fail" a test. That must mean that a certain amount detected is ok.

It's a remarkable development.

Blackmon prefers to get baked because it feels so good than working (football)

I knew something like this would be coming with the news of the Gordon suspension. League interests are not in favor of Johnny Manziel not having his top target for the 2014 season.

LEONARD FOURNETTE FAN CLUB PRESIDENT. I WAS BEHIND HIM WHEN YOU ALL SAID HE WAS BRANDON JACOBS. QUIT HATING ON THE JAGUARS. GUS IS GONE. COUGHLIN HAS RESTORED ORDER. FOURNETTE IS FRED TAYLOR. DONT BELIEVE ME JUST WATCH.

That's what I was coming in to talk about. If marijuana suspensions will be lessened, I'd have to imagine that alcohol suspensions should be as well. Granted, Blackmon was arrested for DUI, so the offense isn't less illegal... but he likely tested dirty or didn't take the test (or something along those lines) which resulted in this suspension. Since it isn't a new criminal charge, I'd put it on the same level of testing dirty for marijuana. I don't really see the difference.

Well alcohols not a crime? So why is Blackmon suspended then? This is a joke of Gordon's get rescinded or lessened and Blackmons doesn't.

And like was said originally blackmon originally failed a DUI but not since.

My question is how will this affect Blackmon, since we do not know what his last offense was, maybe this will help us.

Won't change much, other than the fact that they won't have to work so hard to hide it anymore.
