I'm glad to see JDR awarded a Game Ball by John Elway for yesterday's Broncos road win against the Chiefs and his overall performance as Broncos Interim HC:

One thing I do expect regardless whether the hiring is for the Head Coach position or Offensive Coordinator is that the Texans are going to bring in a top flight Offensive Coach in order to try to develop the QB they likely will take in the upper part of the 1st Round of the 2014 Draft, It's realistically possible the next Texans HC will be from the Defensive Side of the ball.

Keep in mind Gary Kubiak was John Elway's backup as a player and Denver's OC when the Texans hired him. Because the Texans went to the playoffs with a former quarterback and OC as the head coach, I don't see why they would replace him with a former lienbacker and DC. It's not likely that JDR will become the next Head Coach of the Texans. But they could easily name another coach with a Defensive Background as their next Head Coach. While the Texans made the playoffs twice with Gary Kubiak and won a playoff game in both of those seasons, I don't think Kubiak set the standard that the Texans will follow in the future. Expectations in Houston were higher than what Kubiak ended up accomplishing there. If the next Texans HC is a former QB and Offensive Coordinator, it very likely will be because that person is the best potential HC candidate based on his own merits/ credentials. Dom Capers took the Texans nowhere and was fired. The Texans had a lot more success with Gary Kubiak. Is it just a coincidence that a former DC was bad and Kubiak won two division titles? I am not saying the Texans should avoid defensive coordinators in the next HC search, but believe in sticking with what works. Quote:Dom Capers took the Texans nowhere and was fired. Gary Kubiak did have much more success than Dom Capers but he had a much better roster than Capers most of the time. Capers took over an Expansion Franchise that didn't have a great talent base to choose from in 2002. Regardless though, Kubiak didn't have the level of success that would make him a blueprint to follow.
This should set up for some good flaming, but I always thought Del Rio was a decent coach. He was saddled with two horrible GMs. The only year I had a problem with him was his last, and much of that was because he knew he was a lame duck.
He'll get a HC gig again. ![]()

Part of the problem with him was the assistant coaches he hired. Look at how many times he changed offensive and defensive coordinators. Good assistant coaches stay longer than ours did.
