We have seen this song and dance before. He’s inconsistent and he could easily go back to bad Bortles. You keep him and bring in a ton of competition for him. But you don’t just hand him the keys.

He meant giving Garrard a huge contract after stringing together some solid games. That didn’t work out in the long term and it won’t now.
Garrard was very consistent, that wasn't his issue. He is the only QB in recent times that I ever felt like we had a consistent shot of making 3rd and longs. I think he was better than Blake is due to higher completion percentage and better TD:INT ratio.

But that doesn't matter, we are looking at Blake on his own. I think we are going to let Blake play out the 5th year option and make the decision then while drafting a new backup/future QB this April. If he puts up a simular or better year to this year, I think you are pretty much forced to extend him, because the floor is much lower in the nfl.

Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster

This.

This game would have been a win if they didn't have to pussyfoot around Blake's deficiencies. Maybe he continues to progress next year, if so...make the decision then. I would not monster contract this guy.

Lol yeah because Garrard threw for 4500 yards and 35 TDs at age 23 and took his team to the AFC championship at age 25.

Some of you people need to get a clue.

Bahahahahahha. Bortles is the best QB in franchise history and he's only 25.

Really, give it all a break! Did Blake lose the game for us today, absolutely not. He put his heart and soul out on the field today and his so-called top-ranked defense and Hackett's regression in re-creating the Buffalo game in the second half, and our decision to go mostly zone in the 2nd half let us down today. He did everything he could.

With rookie wide receivers, a line that was very inconsistent, a running game that was very inconsistent, he did the best he could with what he was given. He's no Brady, but without a meltdown in defense and play calling in the 2nd half, we'd be making plans to go to the Super Bowl in a couple of weeks. But remember on this board Blake is responsible for all calls and is the reason why our defense played so bad at the end, why our running game was anemic in the 2nd half, etc. Yes, it was all Blake's fault, in your dreams!

Take a look around the league. You're so used to watching garbage football for a decade that getting to the AFC championship is enough for you. You can't have a neutered offence because the coaches don't trust their QB and expect to ride it to a Super Bowl. Hopefully the people in charge have bigger things in mind.

Bortles is an IF Prospect.....

If he had thrown it better...
If the receiver hadn't dropped the ball....
If the Offensive Coordinator didn't call a "safe" game plan...
If he didn't make those bad throws....
If he would just learn to throw a receiver open....

Guy has heart and guts and starts week in and week out but how many 4th Quarter comebacks does he have? How many games has he actually won for us (as in it came down to him going out there and taking it to the house)?

Yeah he does have guts and really hate that he gets a bad rap. Really a steady QB since Brunell there!

Garrard making a 3rd and long?! Dude, Garrard could only throw 1 NFL pass....a slant.

Yeah why not. He will continue to get better and the longer he plays with Nate the better.

Gee we won the Division for the first time ever and outplayed the Bills, Steelers and Patriots in the playoffs. Let's burn it down and start over, that should work.

Classic Duval County IQ. Their 25 year old QB just took them to the AFC Championship without his #1 WR and made 0 turnovers in the playoffs.

Let's go get Kaepernick. lol idiots

Not overpaying a player on a long term deal prematurely is not "burning it down."

It's just one guy that has a one year option on the table. No one is trying to burn down anything.

I think some of you think that getting a better QB is gonna hurt you physically somehow.

Ok good Big Ben is a hall of famer......Bortles has 90 TDs by age 25......looks like Bortles is closer to the Hall of Fame than being cut. Lol at Duval county IQ fans.

Wouldn't have beat Seattle in the regular season and would have lost to both Buffalo and Pittsburgh if it weren't for BB5. When he realized that he didn't have it with throwing against Buffalo, he ran and orchestrated the 1-touchdown drive that yes won that game. Pittsburgh, once our prize-winning defense got exposed repeatedly in the second half, who was it who led the drive that repeatedly said - we will not lose this game. Seattle, after they got back in the game he threw the 75-yard touchdown to get us back up front to win that game. I'm not saying he doesn't have his faults and sometimes I wonder who he's throwing to, but with all the handicaps he had to play with this year, it is ridiculous to think it falls on him and that we got here in spite of him. Get a grip.
