So does Bortles get a long, big $ contract now ?

If he improves as much next season as he did this season, they do give him a new contract at the end of next season. Regardless, they will draft a quarterback to replace Henne. As far as paying a free agent, I don't see that happening at all. Why does Henne need replacing. He had no effect on this season at all. We show less advertisements to registered users. Giving Bortles a massive deal would be stupid. He isn't that good. So many throws even today were not on target, and had they been, the receivers would not have to turn their bodies to try to catch it. He will never be an accurate passer. Plenty of other QBs can do what he does.

We will be drafting 28th or so.... 28th is a perfect slot to draft a qb. One of them will fall and we have a quality starter for them to sit behind. For 3 years. If Blake keeps improving we can trade the drafted player and do it all over again (01-21-2018, 09:01 PM)JagFanatic24 Wrote:(01-21-2018, 08:59 PM)jaglou53 Wrote: Jaguars will pay Blake the $19 million for his option year and see how he does. No, they fired Garrard so they could start Luke McCown the first game. Then Gabbert came in later that season, the rest is history. The guy deserves some credit for how he played the past two games, but to pretend like he was the main reason for this playoff run is just total nonsense.
No. He is under contract now. Let him play it out.

No no no no.
We have seen this song and dance before. He’s inconsistent and he could easily go back to bad Bortles. You keep him and bring in a ton of competition for him. But you don’t just hand him the keys. He meant giving Garrard a huge contract after stringing together some solid games. That didn’t work out in the long term and it won’t now.
Sign him asap, before Cousins sets the market.

You have to move on and seek and upgrade. This team cannot and will not win a Super Bowl with Bortles at QB. It's unfathomable that fans would be content with another year of Blake under center. The time is now and the window is open to win. Don't waste it.
I really think having AR15 back, picking up a pass catching TE, and bolstering the O-line some will go a long way helping BB and this offense. Do they still draft a quarterback somewhere for development? Absolutely. But BB will start next season.

He outplayed Lefty in preseason then they give it to Byron again. When Garrard played he was a pro bowler was he not? (or at least an alternate, I forget) but the guy was a better "game manager" than Blake and could run better and could THROW better than Blake. I seen him make beautiful runs and throws. The problem is everyone was enamored with the "franchise QB', we had to have that franchise QB, everyone was salivating. Now with a solid defense most everyone would be happy with a Garrard game manager. He would have beat the the Pats today if unchained whether by leg or arm. All this Garrard disrespect and what have we had since, Gabberts and Bortles, maybe a scrub in between. Give Dave some props!

They just lost the AFC Title Game, on the road, against a ref favored dynasty...by 4 points. Blake is the guy moving forward. Give him a 3 year extension and draft a guy. That’s all we gotta do. Get A rob back and draft a TE and some more linemen and we right back in the afc championship game

They still have to water down the play-calling because they can't trust him not to throw picks. He's got to get better to earn a long term deal and another option behind center that opens the playbook up should definitely be pursued. We show less advertisements to registered users. It didn’t get much attention because his throws were in the right area but he straight up killed us today and hampered us all year with the inaccuracy. Every replay was easy to see wr fighting across their bodies just to have a chance. Blake has made improvements. But we will waste the talent on this roster is we don’t need get an accurate natural passer. Keep him and draft one early or pay Kirk the money (01-21-2018, 09:02 PM)Etdavis2006 Wrote:(01-21-2018, 08:56 PM)JagFanatic24 Wrote: I don't think you take the risk of dumping Bortles at this point, unless there is a sure-fire upgrade. This team is in win-now mode with a realistic window of only 2 more years for most of the defense. You cannot expect a rookie to develop in that time frame. Sure a few have before, but that cannot be plan A or B or really even C. You have take Blake's option right now unless they get a great indication from Cousins that he wants to come to Jax and that Redskins won't tag him again. The problem with Bortles, Smith, and especially Taylor is that you don't really have a complete playbook. You have to avoid certain playcall's or throws because they are really bad at them. Now if you are like the Rams or San Fran coaches, you can develop a creative playbook to work despite that. But Jag's don't really have that creativity, and don't motion or shift like they really need to. The best chance right now is for Blake to continue to work on mechanics and pre-snap recognition and try to fill out that playbook. Or hope that one of the D-lineman can play like a the DPOY at the end of the season and into the playoffs. (Calais was great at beginning of year. They were all very good at times in playoffs, but no one at that level). Next year will be really tough, as the schedule will make it really hard to get back to this game.

Yup, that last pass to Westbrook that Stephen Gilmore batted, if that was thrown to the pylon, Westbrook would have ran under it, TD, going to the Supet Bowl. |
