Jags looking at Dom Capers for Defensive Assistant
|
Capers' defense was suffocating in 1999 until the Saints game exposed a weakness against 3 WR sets. The Jags defense dropped off after that game through the following season until injuries to the LBs in 2000 forced Capers to use safety Mike Logan as a LB. Somehow that fixed the problem.
I don't know what that says about Capers, maybe that he's too set in his ways? "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?" That EricC85 dude doesn't have a clue about what he's talking about and never has.. This Defense was #4 in Points allowed per game, #2 in Passing yards allowed, #5 in total yards allowed and #11 in rushing average. That's all while having arguably the worst Offense in the entire NFL. The only thing this Defense really lacked from last season (besides a far better Offense), is the turnovers in bunches and the Defensive TDs. Other than that, this was still one of the top Defenses in the league.

Lol, I mean, other than this team here that we talk about all the time. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato
I'd love for Capers to be back. In Green Bay his "Psycho Defense" basically 1 down linemen 5 linebackers and 5 DB's, everyone had the same responsibilities come snap, but by the way they'd move around before the snap made it almost impossible to correctly assign blocks, was a hugeee reason they had terrific 3rd down defense during that SB run they had. I wouldn't mind for some exotic looks from his bag of tricks to surface here!
Championship Formula:
1) Draft Trevor Lawrence! 2) Play good physical Defense! 3) Keep 91% of the roster healthy! 4) ??? 5) Blank #2 6) CHAMPIONSHIP!!! They were: ok lets play 19th in rush defense, 24th in takeaways, 25th in sacks look at that you can find stats to support any argument. you want to tell me the team that let gave up 29 points to the worse offense in the league (yea I'm look at you clot fans) in week 10 was a top 5 defense? Or maybe when the Chiefs hung 30 points on them and then the Cowboys hung 40 points the next week! Wait it's probably cause we held the tacks to 30 points in week 14. I watched every miserable game last year and if you can convince yourself that was a top 5 unit good for your, drink the koolaid I won't blame you but it's in your head and whatever other delusional fan on this message board. We couldn't stop the run, we couldn't stop the passing, we couldn't sack the QB and we sure as hell didn't make turnovers that's not a top 5 defense. We show less advertisements to registered users. Worst offense in the league?!? The Colts?!? They were 5th in scoring, 6th in passing, and 7th in yards per game. The Chiefs scored 23 offensive points . Dallas embarrassed us, as did Tennessee in the second game. But a mediocre defense doesn't shut out the Colts, especially without help from the offense. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

But a whole lot has changed since then and I am not sure he has changed with the times all that much. I mean, some of it comes down to using a 3-4. Back in the 90's, it was still kind of unique and more difficult to figure out. Now it's old news and doesn't pose the confusion it used to. (I honestly wish the Steelers would go 4-3 these days). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dom_Capers#Professional At least with Dom, you have an experienced coach who knows how to be professional. That's worth something, right? (02-08-2019, 11:56 PM)EricC85 Wrote:(02-08-2019, 11:13 PM)Bullseye Wrote: Worst offense in the league?!? Yea, hardly a horrible O at all for Indy. As a matter of fact, Jags were the only team to beat them during a 9-game span; they were undefeated in all other 8 games. That's saying something. And Jags shut them out. That was impressive. Jags were a very good D that week.

If your offense is always 3 and out, that kills your D. Look at the Super Bowl: Rams D was rock solid but wilted from no rest; O was doing nothing. We show less advertisements to registered users.
