You can add Ki-Jana Carter to that list as well.

Carter could have been special if that atomic bomb didn't go off inside his knee. He was finished after that happened.

The injury is reminiscent of the Tavian Banks injury. Career killer.

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

Not really. Carter's career was wrecked by a devastating knee injury in the preseason of his rookie year, and he never recovered. I hesitate to label anyone who suffers a career-killing injury before their rookie season even starts as a "bust", although Carter is frequently slapped with that label by people who weren't paying attention to the NFL in 1995 and only see his stat line and draft position.

Curtis Enis (who was almost a Jaguar) also comes to mind.

Edit:  Just found this.  Hell, I've been watching football a long time and haven't heard of some of these guys.

Enis also fought injuries, though.

I'm sticking with Phillips. He was cut partway through his second year for (among other things) going off on his head coach, blew his second chance in Miami by going all Ray Rice on a woman at a nightclub, then made the most iconic play of his career in San Francisco: making so little effort on a block that the defender flew right by him and ended Steve Young's career.

He continued to blow opportunities in the AFL and CFL by assaulting women and generally being a [BLEEP], and will spend the next few decades in prison. There's no doubt in my mind that he was the absolute biggest bust of a running back ever, entirely because he undeniably had the talent to be great, but flamed out in every single stop by arguing with coaches, beating women and/or generally not giving enough of a crap to tap into it. He could have been one of the best RBs in NFL history, imo, if his career hadn't been ruined by factors entirely within his control. I mean, this guy made Justin Blackmon look like a Boy Scout.

The whole 1996 draft was kind of a disaster for the Rams, tbqh. They also secured the rights to Eddie Kennison and Tony Banks with first and second-round picks.

Lets just say any PSU RB between Curt Warner and Larry Johnson makes the list.

Tavian would've been such a great spell for Fred. That really is a shame

On an unrelated note, I was on active duty and had limited internet access when I heard about what happened. Glad to see you're okay, and welcome back brother.

THERE IS A SKELETON INSIDE OF YOU.

RIGHT NOW. THIS IS NOT A JOKE.

Enis sucked for two years before his knee injury in 1998 and he certainly never played like a #5 pick.
